« on: December 11, 2006, 05:25:02 PM »
Whats the difference between the harmonic balancers used on a 68 327 / 210hp and a 68 327 / 210 hp???

A friend of mine is having a hellava time trying to find one for his 68......

Do the 68's have that much of a difference???

Thanks...

Is this a trick question???

I'm assuming you have a typo and are either looking for the difference between the 67 and 68 327/210 or perhaps the difference between the 68 327/210 and the 68 327/275?

For 1968, all 327's (except the special high performance engines) used the same balancer. However, you're right... This is a 68 item only! You should post a want ad on the Supercar Registry or the Team Camaro sites.

By the way, the original part number was 3914684 and was used on ALL 1968 cars (and probably even trucks) with the low performance 327.

Ed,

Thanks for the reply....I placed this question for a friend of mine....

I did some research and found that there is an aftermarket unit made by Pioneer that is supposed to be a direct replacement.....

But.....it's listed as a 6" diameter unit that weigh's 4.5 lbs, whereas the original is 6-3/4" diameter and weighs almost 8lbs.

I personally can't believe that this thing is so hard to get.....it's just nuts.... ???

Either way...what's the difference between a 67 and 68 327 / 210hp balancer?

Are you differentiating between a small journal 327 and large journal  327?

All small journal motors should all be effectively the same.

Cnorton,

I really don't know...and I guess that's why I'm asking.  It seems that the 67 balancer is readiliy available, while the 68 is really hard to find.  Is it beacuse of journal size??? I don't know.

Look in all the major Camaro parts vendors catalogs.  It starts at 67, skips 68 and goes onto the 69's and up.....it makes you think that there is something really special about this balancer......

Thanks,
Mike
