Seat Belt Tag
« on: December 08, 2006, 11:04:23 PM »
The seat belt tag reads:

Hamill          1968
Model          137
45C67

Would that be OK for a 68 12D?

I am not an expert on seat belts but based on my date code reference info:  "45" = week of manufacture, "C" = not sure what the code stands for belts made by Hamill, "67" = year.  Thus, it appears a belt dated code with “45” = 45th week of November 1967, could be correct for a car assembled in the 4th week of December 1967.

Ssnake-Oyl Product, Inc., Hawkins, TX, 903-769-4555, www.ssnake-oyl,com, is a great resource for seat belt restorations, date coding and belt application info.

Just the question I was about to ask!  :)
My Norwood 68 coupe model build - 12c

Seat belts read
Irving   1968
Model # 237
49  A  67

They have the black plastic covers.

The different model numbers are interesting - 137 and 237.  Any clues as to what that means?
There's also some belts on ebay the same as mine but with 1968 #330  1H28 68  &   1H24  68 on them   ???
Would that be the 24th and 28th August 1968?
Did they change the date coding system at some point?

btw Dave, your ssnake-oyl link is broken with a comma. Their seatbelts look great, very detailed! but I couldn't find info regarding decoding.

Of course Kurt saying they were OK was enough for me...
But I did find enough in Hooper's Conclusive book to figure out the date decoding.  Nothing about models...
I didn't find a decoding chart at that site either, so I emailed them...

Here's the info from my uncompleted seatbelt article (just was working on it again, that's good!)

Location                   Standard   Deluxe
Front lap, bucket seat   237         137
Center lap, bench seat  235         131
Front shoulder       277 (coupe)177 (coupe)
                           ?   (convertible) ?  (convertible)
Rear lap                      231          131

Dates:
A one or two digit number indicating the production week, a single letter (apparently related to which plant (or possibly production line) produced the part), and the two-digit calendar year number.

No idea.
I just redid the drivetrain decoding section (to be published soon) and am working on a couple of other things too.
