More Pictures from Newbie regarding real RS\SS.
« on: November 28, 2006, 11:00:13 PM »
I put a posting on a few days ago and now have the pictures to help the Experts at CRG help me understand if I do own a real 1967 RS/SS.
Pic. # 3 is the numbers stamped on th front body under the cowl panel.  Pic # 5 is the VIN,  Pic. #6 is the stamp on the top of the Transmission, Pic # 7 is the side of the transmission ( Is it a M-20 or M-21??).  Pic # 8is the tag bolted to the transmission ( what does it mean?)  Pic. # 10 is the front pad of the motor, and Pic. # 12 is the rear of the motor, The cast date on the motor is H186 as shown in Pic. 13. Picture 15 is the axle tube Is it a Posi?    It is a 12 bolt and has center cast numbers of H296 and 3894860.  What is the gear ratio?  Is this a rare car or fairly common??  Thank you for all of your help!

Matt,

The motor casting number and code/number on the VIN varify you have a 1967 L48 350 with a manual tranny.  Its a flint engine Assembled in August 29th....   Can you check the other side on the rear of the block to see the block date code to confirm how much the casting date leads the assembly date?

It looks to me like you ahve L48 350, muncie tranny (not sure if its an M20 or M21) you would need to count the number of rings on the input shaft (2 is an M-20 and 1 is an M-21) and your rear is a 3.31 posi....

In not a CRG meber, but would have to say it sure looks like a real SS.....

Matt,

Please try to "reply" to your original post. Too many threads gets convoluted and is confusing for the readers...

As for your car, it does appear to be an SS 350. The Transmission tag (3890534) is for a Muncie M20 and was used with the 67 Camaro 350. The date code of P7M25 shows it to be assembled on the 25th of August, 1966 for a 1967 model. This lines up nicely with the engine code of August 29th, 1966, with also lines up nicely with your VIN of L402007 (which was assembled the second week of September, 1966).

The Rear Axle number of "PF 0913 G" indicates a 12 bolt 3.31 posi assembled on the 13th of September, 1966. (Your pictures are too small for me to see the casting dates on the "pumpkin".)

Congrats! Looks like a nice, "unmolested" car.

Thank you Ed.  Sorry for confusion.  I couldn't figure out a way to post all of the pictures at the same time.  I won't do it again.  The "pumpkin casting date is H296 and the number 3894860 too.  Thank you for your help!

Perfect. "H296" is August 29th, 1966 and the "3894860" is the correct casting number for a 1967 12 bolt axle. All your numbers line up very nicely.

I'm sure Daniel will be compiling them for the database, so don't be surprised if you get an email (or a "request" here) from him asking for some personal information.
