What kind of glue?
« on: November 24, 2006, 03:23:11 PM »
John or anybody,

OK, I realize this would be a good question for Trivial Pursuit, but what kind of glue was ORIGINALLY used for things like the tire pressure or jack instructions?  The AIM shows that glue was applied (even how much) and I've gathered from other posts on CRG that this was done with a glue gun.  (JohnZ mentions that some broadcast sheets were glued to the top of the gas tank at Van Nuys.) But what kind of glue?  Clear or white? Water-soluble or not?

Almost all "stickers" were pre-gummed, with removable liner paper on the back. About the only two that weren't were the window sticker and the Posi sticker. The window sticker used a special water-based glue that was applied from rollers in a bench-top tray (like you'd use for pre-pasted wallpaper), and the Posi sticker used a water-based yellow glue that was applied with a small roller.

Appreciate it, John!
Once you explained it, I went back to the AIM and saw how it happened...
It's great to get the info. from someone who saw it happen!  ;D ;D ;D

John--were the jacking instructions in the trunk also glued-on with yellow glue and not pre-gummed? Thanks a million for this info!

The jack instruction sticker was pre-gummed; see UPC 10, Sheet A2 in the A.I.M. - shows the sticker part number, no callout for glue.
