I've been asked by a few of you 'How is your garage coming?'...  :)

Not quite 'working on cars' yet, but the garage is coming along.  Currently wiring and insulating on the inside, then wall/ceiling paint and floor epoxy before I begin using it for 'real work'.. :)
The 'construction zone' is beginning to clear a bit on the outside at least, but working on it during our current 100F/90+Humidity has been tough on my old body!!  :)

Hey Gary, good work. I hear you with the humidity, it just Zaps the energy right out of you doesn't it. I assume your new shop will also have AC/heat? What other amenities are you planning on?

Gary, very nice! I am definitely jealous, especially since I don't have a shop of my own at this time. I have been using my brothers shop that is equipped with a lift to work on my 66, and thankful for that.

Look forward to seeing finished pictures and with your HO car sitting in there. :)

Keep up the good work and be careful in that heat/humidity

LOL-started with a 3 car attached when we built the house, 10' ceilings. 2005 had a 32x64x12 gambrel built. (our first house could fit up stairs). All my lawn care stuff is in the 16x12 "salt box" Z's on the lift, still jockeying vehicles around! I'm jealous how beautiful your lawn is! This summer has been brutal from too much rain to now we need some. Digging the baby Kubota also, you know how to live!

Looking good Gary!!!..  Jano you just need to move down south..  I just came in from mowing and it just keeps getting thicker...  Humidity + rain + extreme heat = amazon yard.. :o

Darrel is right..  with the heat we have down south, get a little rain and the lawn grows ballistically!   :)  It's going to be cool tomorrow (ony 91F expected), so maybe I'll get more work done than today..  wiring and insulating..  up and down ladders... itching from the fg... :)

Jano... the Kubota is my son in law's.. who is my contractor on the garage shell construction; he spread my dirt pile yesterday and ran over it with the Harley rake (which does a fabulous job even in damp soil)..

Austin:  Yes, I HOPE to have a heat pump for AC and heat (if I can afford it after all the other expenses).  I'm also putting in a 'whole house attic fan' which hopefully will keep it workable in fall and spring temps.

Other amenities?  not much... lotsa light (eight double 8' fluorescents), a built in work bench and storage shelves, R30 ceiling insulation, R13 walls, white walls/ceiling, gray Epoxy floor.  and I think I'm really going to like the side porch with OH fan...  :)   I have a 4 post lift at my other shop (2 mi away) - I do my dirtiest work - ie sandblasting, paint, etc there.  I hope to do light mechanical, upholstery, assembly, etc in this new shop and store cars in my basement garage.

Sounds like quite the operation. I look forward to hearing about Phase III, when you complete building 3 for finished cars.... ;D

I am in NC and have a 60 by 40. I put in a gas furnace and A/C. In the winter I can leave the heat on 60 which keeps the humidity low so the cars stay dry. I used a 4 ton unit and when I go out to work the gas unit can get the temp up to 70 in 30 minutes. A heat pump does not work that fast so you have to keep the temp up more or wait longer. My beach house has a heat pump which I leave on about 55 in the winter. When I go it takes around 3 hours for it to get to 70.

OK..  Garage is FINALLY finished and time for an update.  It's amazing how progress slowed down since the end of July, when the 10 man crews quit coming and it was *just Me* doing the wiring, insulation, wall board, painting, etc on the inside.. not to mention landscaping, cleanup, etc.. epoxying the floor, staining the porch floor.. and all the other myriad tasks necessary to begin work.  I've been working in the garage for a week or so, thus far just doing some work to reproduce the back seat wood for the Nomads (which made for lots of sawdust, etc that I had to clean up).. but today..  I moved my '56 Nomad out of the basement up to the garage so I can reupholster the seats.  Also today, I trailered my '57 Sedan from my 'dirty shop' over here so I can go thru the brakes, do a tuneup and clean it up (hasn't been driven in 10 yrs or more).. which also frees up space in my paint booth so I can finish up some work over there.  Here's a couple of photos of the first cars into my new space... :)

It all turned out great Gary. The floors, the work bench, keep it all tidy my friend.

(How about some signage on those walls? ) :D

It looks like a great back drop for a photo shoot on your 69Z for the home page ;)

Thanks Austin..  :)   I did put up a poster of a '57 Nomad and the major reason for doing OSB on the walls was to allow installing screws, nails, etc anywhere on the wall... :)

Unfortunately this garage won't be used for photographing the '69 Z28...  The Z28 is in so many parts, and they are sorted, bagged, labeled, organized (for the most part) in the basement, so that car will remain there until it's running on it's own.  I do intend to bring up the engine parts and reassemble the 302 for the car in the new garage where I have much better light...  I may do that this winter if it all works out...  :)   I did free up some space in the basement where I now should have enough room to open the doors on the Z28 and finish some other work I was doing down there.

PS.  This new garage is the cleanest, brightest, and Best space I've ever had for doing car work.. :)
