69 SS/396 with F41 Suspension and N44 Steering
« on: June 30, 2015, 04:59:41 PM »
I'm the original owner of a 1969 SS (5Z27AA) 396/375 (L78) with Special Purpose Suspension (5F41AC $10.55) and Special Steering Equipment (5N44BA $15.80).  I thought the SS package had HD Suspension and Quick Ratio Steering included.  So mine appears strange.  The options come from original price sticker.   I special order the car with these options.

I have a Body Broadcast Copy and the Steering Gear is AN and rear shocks are UN.  It doesn't have the front springs or shocks (Chassis Broadcast Copy which I don't have).  The rear springs are BM 3934894.  It has an 11/16 diameter anti-roll bar  in front and not the 13/16 anti-roll bar on COPO Camaros with Sport Suspension.

I'm trying to find out any informtion on these options on top of the SS option.  Also does anyone know the front shock codes and front spring codes?  I guess I could use the parts book and look for a front spring equilivent to production line spring.  Maybe someone has an SS optioned like this.

I know no changes have been made since I'm the original owner.

Thanks

Hi,  It's great to have an original owner here...   there are folks here who can answer your questions, but we also love to learn from each other, and your car/you being original owners of one another..  :) ..  have a lot to share with us!   Photos photos. photos.  we all love photos..   and other details of your car.   is it a norwood or LA car?   The data tag will tell that information as well as other info...  With your VIN we can pinpoint the date of manufacture (but you probably know that already if you special ordered the car!)..

I'm fairly certain that the SS package did not include the F41 suspension, or the quick ratio steering, so it had to be included by selecting the options (which you apparently did)..  Isn't it amazing how cheap such options were back then?   and how much cheaper they sound in todays' world.. :)

Anyway, welcome to CRG...  post away and tell us more about your car!

SS included fast-ratio steering if power steering was ordered. Manual N44 was accomplished via different steering linkage, same as Z/28.

UN is the standard 12 bolt rear shock for manual transmissions; automatics typically received TN rear shocks. F41 used different springs.

F41 was available on all models except L6 and Z28.
N44 (manual) was optional. SS didn't include fast-ratio manual.

Great docs for a great combo!
