Where have all the RS SS's gone ?
« on: March 13, 2015, 04:48:36 PM »
Here's a few hidden gems (6) just collecting dust, but at least they're inside from the weather.  I was in a warehouse district running an errand when I was told about these Camaros.  So I made a visit,  this is what I saw and was told per owner who's now in his 70's.  He bought all of them during the early 70's (71-73).  All supposedly matching numbers front to back and all original and untouched except for the (1) 68 that had front end damage (reason for the orange nose).  Six first gen true RS SS's stored away for the future..future what?  not sure as the owner told me he has a no plans to sell.   :(

Red '67 RS SS Coupe (was told it has every available option)
Orange nose '68's RS SS (top rack) and a Red 68 RS SS below
Blue '69 RS SS 396 Big block Convertible (top rack)  If I recall the Camaro below was a 71 or 72 Z
Reddish Primer '69 RS SS Convertible (top rack)

Oh... and 1 more, a black w/gold stripe' 69 RS SS convertible that was actually in very nice restored condition.  Said it was restored about 8 yrs ago with a 10K paint job.  It was covered in dust from just sitting with the windows and top down.

So... if your wondering where all the true RS SS's have gone.... it's here buried and I mean they are buried among piles of stuff ..  ;D

...so the cars were only a few years old when he bought them ? Then he let them sit and somewhat rot all these years? Futures now for him..JHC. They'll end up going in an estate auction.

Yeah your right, the future is now.  I thought the same thing as I was walking around..errr squeezing around between them and the racks.  I tried working on the blue 69 big block.. he couldn't give me a price.  He stuttered around and quickly changed the subject, you could see they where sentimental.  So that means they have a sentimental price as well... which I can't afford...lol

So true Austin.  I asked the owner if he minded me taking pics so that I could share them for others to see.  He was laughing as if I was taking pictures of rocks, nothing important...lol  Mean while I was DROOLING at the "buried treasure" !

Yes, the only coupes were the 2 that were under the car lifts.  In which one was the '67 and the other a '68.   I too was trying to figure out what those rims came off of.  If I recall correctly some of the Buick Regals may of had something similar.  The only one that had original ralley rims was the '69 black and gold.

Did you learn anything about the background of the owner?   Maintaining a large warehouse for that many years without making $$ on it is an expensive proposition in itself.

Looks like a nice find! Too bad he will probably not sell any of them, at least not at current marked value. But it wouldn't hurt to keep in touch and continue trying. Sometimes collectors like this appreciate the attention. Sometimes they don't, but then they usually don't show them off.

The story is nice, but does sound a bit embellished. Those are 80's style steel wheels, how did they get on there if they where all bough in 1970-73?
As far as one car having every option available, that is just not possible. There are to many overlapping options and multiple option choice's for this to happen. But that was a common way to describe high option cars back in the day, before we actually White Books and RPO lists.

And the black one isn't an SS.
