It was also used on '68 Z28s.... so your carb would be a very early one (assuming it's original)...  I suppose there's also a possibility that it was made in 1977 as a service part...?  but I'm purely guessing on all this..

1977 would have had a 4 digit date code.

Here's mine for an Oct 68 build 69Z.  Dated 872, July 2, 1968. If yours is 781, that would be Aug 1, 1967 and would make sense for an early 68 Z.

That makes sense , its from a 1968 z28.    it is original.   it also has holes drilled between the barrels on the top  ,  any info on this ??   ive had this packed away for many many years.  Could it been done to help with a problem ?  I tried adding a picture but it keeps saying file too large .     Im new to this website.  thanks for all the help.

For your image/photo issue, note that the largest file size acceptable on this website is 200 kilobytes.   Check the properties for your file to find the file size.   you can use 'Paint' to decrease the image area and remove extraneous image area which will reduce the file size, but if that doesn't get you down to 200 kb, then you can use 'Light Image Digitizer' (a free software available online, for personal use), which will retain great image detail, but greatly reduce your file size using some advanced compression software.  Your photo will help people to answer your question re the 'additional holes'...

Without seeing, and I am sure a pic will come soon, I am guessing the holes were for a modification that would have a special discharge nozzle that squirrted fuel into the secondaries as well as the primaries acting much like a double pumper. A drag trick for sure. Many felt that the Vacuum secondaries were inferior, not understanding how to properly set up a vac. secondary carb. There IS NO problem with vac. secondary carbs, just a bunch of Hocus Pocus sold to an ignorant bunch who insisted that carbs could be made better. This mod. was usually accompanied with a gear driven mod. attatched to the throttle rods to mechanically open the secondary barrels simultaneously with the primaries...what a messed up idea,IMO.

Those holes were added for center squirters, a popular performance mod back in the good old days.

Kurt - The carb for one of my cars had those holes with long squirters that shot from the primary side into the secondaries when I got it.  So I got another throttle body and drove the car.  Now I wouldn't mind getting the original throttle body repaired.  Did you use something like JB Weld or Epoxy to fill the holes?  Just curious.  Obviously don't want any material finding its way into the cylinder at speed.

Just for clarification Jimmy for someone reviewing this in the future, 872 means 1968 July 2nd week and 781, 1967 August 1st week. :)
Would like to see the stamping on that early 781!
