pic of my `69 z28. i bought it from the 2nd owner in 1996, he got it in 1970 for graduation. i bought the car with 35,000 miles and most all the important stuff is still on it. motor, trans, rear, alt, starter, front shocks, carb, distrub, etc.

yes, original black car, trim tag reads 10-10. the car does get driven but don`t want to load the miles on it, lol i make sure to run a tank full or 2 through it to and from the local car shows and get it out in the light of day. it is a blast to drive and seems  to get peoples interest at the shows.

here`s a pic of the engine bay, needs some smog and the factory chambered back on it and the hood hinges de-chromed. anybody know if de-chroming is possible ? also wondering if anybody can install new ends on my factory spring ring battery cables ?

not bad Cam69. Not to sure about chrome removal. Might be easier to find a good original set of hood hinges, since every 69 had them. Smog can be pricey I have heard, they do make some nice chambered exhaust systems now, that jerry has given the thumbs up to. Plug wires aren't to hard to locate. I wonder if someone scrapped off the timing sticker from your radiator support?
I like the flat hood! Wink , Glad to have another member keeping their Camaro original!

yeah, the tune up decal was long gone when i got the car. i have to send the original carb to jerry to be rebuilt. when i bought the car the guy said he bought it with the sidepipes on it, but then produced a piece of the coveted chambered exhaust. actually the muffler and the pipe that goes over the rear end. i need to try to do a title search to find the 1st owner and see if he has any paperwork from when the car was new.

I would definitely try to obtain as much info as you can, I am still contact with the original owners wife of my car, and trying to get pics, and anything else they may run across. At this point any original items are priceless to me. Let us know how it goes

Take your hinges to a local plating/chrome shop, ask them to remove the chrome and return to you.   I'd suggest a good degreasing and removing the springs first.. hopefully they aren't chromed?

I think I saw that car for sale about a year or so ago, owner said the car came with the original numbers matching 302 as well. I can't remember the price but it seems like it was in the low 100k's. From what I remember he purchased the motor a few years prior. I remember thinking  it was kind of a shame it went into a show car that wouldn't see the open road. I am pretty sure Smokey would have frowned on that .. Sad

Are you still running the traction bars? What rear end (gears) do you have in it ? I also noticed a rear spoiler but no front spoiler, was the rear added at one point? or did the front get sacrificed to a couple of driveways...Looks like the owner may have painted the grill black, or is that just the lighting? Also looks like you have the optional door guards Smiley

yes, the traction bars are still there. the gear set is 3.73 the front spoiler got wiped off in the late 70`s from what the guy i bought it from told me. he tore some of the drivers side off it so it got repainted at that time. new quarter panel, front driver fender and lower valance. they have the GM stickers on them. he said he swapped the grill out because he liked  the black grill better? not 100% sure on the door edge guards though, he may have added them on the repaint ? i am going to try to find the picture from the day i picked the car up and took it home, it still had the 3" side pipes on it.

Very good info. Its funny my car has 46k on it which is considered low milage but still another 8k more than your low milage beauty , but its funny with the "low" milage that each car has how many oops things happened still from the original owners. My front spoiler definitely has some wear to it, I acquired a nice original back up if one day it decides to part with the car. And of coarse my car also has some paint touch ups on the side panels from the bad Michigan winters eating up the paint I believe.
The side pipes are a great bit of nostalgia, I don't see them now in your pics, what style exhaust did you replace them with?

i had a friend put some stock size pipes on it, the system in the pics was 2.5" and rusted out way quick, it was a cheap flowmaster kit. the system now is aluminized and should last a lot longer. i have all new sheetmetal from GM, quarters, fenders, cowl hood, rad support. the cowl hood might go bye bye though, most likely won`t put it on. i think i will sell it or trade it for some NOS parts im looking for. the block is the 388 casting, i thought it might be a replacement until Jerry said it was correct and showed me the #`s matching stamping by the oil filter, huge sigh of relief, lol

That's cause the car has Z23, but not Z87 deluxe interior.

My car has a console, so it has wood grain on the instrument cluster, no wood grain on the horn shroud. What did you have to order to get the grab bar?

Well my car has very little options, but does have the grab bar. On the invoice it says "special interior group" My car also has wood on the steering wheel and dash, and has the stainless trim around the pedals.

The "dash assist handle" (grab bar) was included in RPO Z23 for 1969, which was a subset of Z87. More HERE.

I see a lot of cars for sale that have all kinds of incorrect variations of the Z23 option. Like bright pedal trim and wood grain drivers's dash, but at the same time no grab handle and Camaro emblem above glove box. Since the Z23 grab handle is above the glove box the Camaro emblem had to be moved above the ash tray. Or wood grain dash, but not steering wheel. There are lots of ways to get it wrong if you don't study up on what Z23 actually included.

Wood on the wheel and on the dash...
Any idea what the tilt column release lever is from? Looks like Pontiac but the plastic is fluted. I thought Pontiac had smooth plastic.

When I bought the car in July 1990 it had that tilt lever. If it is incorrect it was changed before then. The car came originally with the tilt steering per the Dec. 68 picture form original owner.

Huh Maybe different due to the deluxe interior? Does the plastic end match the signal lever? I'm not questioning the originality just curious. Someone out there must know or think they do. BTW Nice Car/Color Combo.

The turn signal and tilt have the same knob. That goes for standard interior and deluxe. The example below has deluxe interior. The tilt lever is easily replaced...

Your car looks great on the forum page Brian. Have you dug out from the snow storm? When you're out here we need to get together. Stay warm Smiley

Cam69 do you happen to know what the difference between Jerry certifying a car, and what I call verifying the numbers for a buyer. Buyer paying Jerry to make sure the car is numbers matching as the seller claims.

i had Jerry certify the car. i knew going into it it was a correct and original z28. everything is date coded within a few weeks and is numbers matching. so i guess i do know the difference. the seller had no documentation when i bought the car. after getting Jerry`s book and seeing myself that everything was correct on it, meaning all the major components etc. was what the goal was. so having Jerry document it helped because not everybody gets all the paperwork and POP`s.

Yeah I used his book plus I had some Docs, but the buyer wanted Jerry to come out west and ( lack of a better word) verify the car. Jerry took lots of pictures of the engine, trans, rearead, and looked the car over. He then told me he would recommend the buyer purchase the car. Even through it must have cost the buyer 2 k to have Jerry come out, I guess it was cheap insurance for the price he was paying me for the car.

yes, i agree. like i said i knew (well i thought i knew) it was real and legit i still had doubt without that valuable paperwork. Jerry certified another z28 the same time he came to look at mine so we got a better price on it. the car is a true 10-10 black car as well, what a coincidence that was. but i do need to look into the title history search because the original owner might have some paperwork still.

Back in the early 90's I did a title search in Oregon, got the original owner plus his docs on the car. Now days unless you know someone in the DMV very hard to get in most states. Privcy laws I think. But having Jerry's paper work you should be golden.

yeah im thinking the same thing but still going to try. if not the guy i bought it from goes to a lot of car shows and i could see if he remembers who he bought it from. he got it from the original ownerand his older brother knew the guy, so hopefully something will pan out. would be cool to at least get some pictures of it new.

You might want to check Kurt's 69 Documentation list for docs on your car, if you haven't already.
