Which crossflow/transverse muffler on BBC
« on: September 24, 2013, 01:54:03 AM »
I am just wanting a good sounding exhaust system that is stock in appearance but with headers, x-pipe going into a crossflow or transverse muffler and exiting in stock location(67-8) on a BBC. No true duals.. It can be either 2.5"in / 2.5"out or 3"in / 2.5"out. So tell me what you have or what you have heard? I am leaning towards one muffler but I havent heard it in person yet. If you happen to have sound bites load them up as well. Thanks. :)

If you choose "other" then could you tell me what the other would be..?..

So no one else is running a crossflow muffler on their car?  Small blocks are welcomed as well!!

I'm the one who entered 'Other'. My system was made in the late 80's and is SS and uses a cross flow muffler with stock sizes and exits.
I don't know vendor though.   :(  The sound is nice actually with a comfortable deep tone to it and not loud.

I chose 'other' as well, 302 with stock type system I bought from someone on Team Camaro 12 years ago. I have no idea who made it, but sounds like a typical system thru a crossflow muffler. Has a nice turbo muffler sound without any deep tone at all. Can actually hear the heater blower motor running when the engine is running but has a nice sound outside the car. Not obnoxious at all.

This very timely since I was just at a muffler shop today asking the owner I know well, what type of mufflers/system he thought from his experience would sound good on my car, which I plan to change soon.
I will be following this thread and poll very closely - great Thanks.. - Randy

I have a 1969 ss396 & a 1968 z/28. Both are running OEM GM mufflers that I've purchased through the years. I'm a little bias but nothing I've heard sound better. Some of the after market mufflers sound tinny & crackly. Others are just cop callers....Joe

I just was checking out this post, and saw you added SBC also.  I am running the PYPES Cross-flow 2 1/2 in. system and love love it.  I did purchase the original style Hangers for in front of the axle, separately, just didn't like the "generic" hanger they supplied.  1 issue I had, you need to draw the lower inlet pipe in on the Pass. side or it will hit on the Leaf spring.  I cut 1 in. off and "drawed" it in with a rachet tie-strap.  Here's a couple pics.;
