X66 is not style trim equipped, so it shouldn't have wheel well moldings, but would have the quarter gills.

Are you sure ? My non-X code (12A) X66 was never drilled for the gills, best way to differentiate between an X22 and an X66 early car IMO (where you lack any paper documentation). My X77 is the same way - no piercings in the quarters, and no gills ever -

All 1969 396 cars should have gills (X66 & X22). X22 also included style trim (roof trim & wheel molding and other bright work).  I'm curious of what  the date codes are on your quarter panels, on your X66 car. Are you sure they haven't been replaced.

We are not discussing Z28's, but X77 never had gills / style triim and X33 includes those.

This site has a treasure trove of information with table and matrix ,deciphering the many build combinations and corresponding requirements.

We are not discussing Z28's, but X77 never had gills / style triim and X33 includes those.

Hard to be 100% positive, since I haven't owned it since new, but all seams, welds, and landmarks seem to be 100% factory. Interior inspection of the quarters shows no signs of welded or bondoed holes in the louver areas. The other side - this car was a vinyl top car, so I now have the question as to whether it is an X66, or maybe an X22 Style Trim car. No paperwork with the car, just a 550 lb. P-O-P, black rear cove, SS trim, and N66 wheels. I have read the tables and info about quarter trim on non-X22 SS cars, and also have heard of some of the early COPO cars being X66 cars - I haven't seen all COPO's with quarter trim, either.
My only reason for discussing an X77 vs. X33's was in relation to the Style Trim availability, which I tied to X66/X22 vehicles. Sorry to digress during an open discussion.

X44 copo's were not style trim and did not get the quarter gills or wheel molding. X11 copo's were style trim and got both. X66 copo's received the quarter gills and blacked out tail panel.

From what you stated you're not positive what your car started life as. Any crayon markings behind rear seat back?

In my OP I was purposely being sarcastic in noting that being an X66 car (supposedly), it had all  the style trim components. I did not mention the gills as I know on SS's they had them in both configurations. I see too many "over- restored" examples of X66 and X77 that send a red flag that if the car is restored correctly, the person could have saved $$ not adding what was not there originally. I also see a lot of SS's for sale that do not have the power brake pedal medallion or correct BB X-member. If I was buying, I would be dubious in any claim about a car that lacked obvious details mentioned as being the real deal. Most cars for sale on the net seem to lack in authenticity. I don't mean to pick other's cars apart, but that is why I exclusively read and post to this site. Most here, read, know and understand Camaros with a similar passion that I relate to. On my own car(s), I want all facets to be exact and correct, not just for my own satisfaction, but to lend credence that the car is in fact the real deal.  There is a finite segment that care and see it this way. The majority either don't care or refuse to take the time to educate themselves before making false claims in their adds or mis-representations that indicate to me the seller is either ignorant or less than trustworthy in representing their car.

The X66 big block in question is located about 1 mile from my house and I run into this car at local cruise events. The car is a Canadian documented 396 however I have never looked close enough at the car to verify any numbers. It is an older repaint with some flaws and the interior is far from perfect.  It is a nice cruise night car and not a show car. Seems a bit on the high side for price but that's just my opinion.
