J50 power brake option 4 wheel drum brakes ?
« on: March 29, 2013, 02:34:49 AM »
I was reading  a thread on Team Camaro that you were looking for someone with the J50 power brake option on a 4 drum  67 Camaro. Well how much is left I am not sure. There is no brake booster, the brake pedal rests in the wrong spot. It doesn't have the original intake manifold. The edelbrock manifold on it now does not have a hole for vacuum fitting. Not sure what else you may be looking for ?

Two things come to mind:
Possibly you read about this: http://www.camaros.org/forum/index.php?topic=3834.0;all
Or you read about looking for a 67 with J50 and J65 - http://www.camaros.org/suspen.shtml#Brakecomp  http://www.camaros.org/metallic.shtml#J65

Thanks for the reply Kurt.   My Camaro is a Oct 11 66 build . A former owner got the info package from GM Canada Vintage services back in 2004 that shows in the options that my car originaly was a power steering /power brake car(Iam assuming power drums)  Now it is manual steering/manual brakes,so I went looking at the #s. The assembly date on the steering box is so worn and pitted it will never ever be read but the casting date is there  173. The master cylinder only has a letter "B" stamped on it. Also from the condition of the nuts and bolts and the shape it is in, been replaced.  It also has fold down rear seat that is in my opinion original to the car but not in the option list ? How would one find a Gold Deluxe fold down rear seat to match the rest Gold Deluxe interior in Canada ? could not have been many sold or survived. So what I would like to know could the steering box and MC be original to the car ?
I will do some more searching here but any help would be greatly appreciated.

Just checked the Julian calender. Hmmm 173 is june 22nd  for the steering box. that would be almost 4 months before the Oct 11th  66 build date ? Would that be normal ? Judging by the pitting on the box it appears to be a lot older than the other components in the car.
