1967 RS Camaro
« on: February 05, 2013, 11:21:40 PM »
Hi there,
I am new to this forum and I am having problems deciphering my cowl tag. It seems there is contradictory information. This is my first Camaro.
I am hoping the people here have much more expertise in these numbers. Can someone tell me what I have as I would like to compare what the stock numbers are and whats physically in front of me.
Thanks for looking and the help.

Jeff

Your pics are hard to read --glare and bad angle.  Take pity on an old man....  ;D
How about listing the numbers in your next post.
So far I see a 67 LOS Bolero Red RS, custom interior coupe with black A50 buckets without headrest, D55 console, etc., M35 Powerglide, built 2nd week of Oct.

I'll yield to better, younger, more informed eyes.

I think your right. The angle is bad.
I will do my best to write out the numbers  :)

Cowl Tag:
10B - ?
M036 - Not finding what this number means
67-12637
LOS 2259 - I know its Los Angeles but not sure of the rest
765-Z - This seems contradictory
2MGS 3L - I have no idea what this means
R-R - Bolero Red top & bottom

Vin #124377L106876

Just hoping they all match.
Thank You very much guys, this is a very informative forum.

10B = build date in model year, B is second week, 10th month is Oct, 66.
MO36 is a LOS internal plant scheduling code.
765-Z = custom black buckets, Z= A50 strato buckets without headrests
2MGS = M powerglide, G console, S right rear maual antenna option U73 = all those letters in the 2 decode position, read them seperately 2M, 2G, 2S
3L is your Rally Sports package

Go up to the CRG button at the top, look under numbers --or just follow the link I posted.
You can start learning about what all those numbers mean.

I have a black front stripe but as I'm reading it seems like its supposed to be a white stripe. But I also read that if its bolero red than its supposed to be black stripe with black vinyl top. So I'm not sure what to believe. Any ideas?
Thanks very much for your expertise in this. I promise I will learn more.
Also how do u tell what motor is supposed to be in it? I currently have a 210 hp 327. Seems correct but don't know for sure.

Yes, your car came with the base V8 LF7 (327/210). For 1967, Bolero Red would have black stripes so you're okay. Also, your paint code shows R-R which is Bolero Red upper and lower. If your car came with a vinyl top, it would have a R-2 for the paint code.

Okay, now I'm confused.  I thought the 67 Bolero Red got a white stripe --unless it was ordered with a black vinyl or conveertible top... So could a 67 paint code R-R get a black stripe? How was that ordered?

Sorry, you're right. White unless you got the vinyl top (or convertible top if it was a convertible). I was reading his vinyl top statement and writing things at the same time. I promise never to chew gum and walk again!!

I thought it was supposed to be white. But got confused with the bolero red and black vinyl top. Guess that's what I need to change. Thanks very much both of you for answering my questions.

What's your thought on the power glide? Should I switch to a turbo 350

Jeff,
Does your motor look original?  Please post a pic of your motor if it does.

BTW, Ed is right 99.9% of the time.  I've learned a ton of Camaro stuff from him.  ;D ;D ;D

My 68 327 does fine with powerglide.

If it's original to the car please don't change it. Try to keep anything that is original even if you have to overhaul it.
