Who mixes code Y Butternut Yellow in a good quality Base coat?
« on: October 04, 2012, 12:05:40 AM »
I am not quite ready yet, but who is mixing Butternut in Base Coat? I called my PPG store here locally and they said they could not mix it in DBC only single stage or omni and the color would most likely be off. I really prefer to shoot the car in Base clear, any help would be  greatly appreciated.
 Thanks in advance,
 Nick

Try Autocolorlibrary in San Diego. They're supposed to have acurate formulas. I'm going to use them for my daytona yellow when I'm ready...Joe

TCP Global is where I got my paint PPG DBC and I might add were the Only ones who had a correct formula to mix my interior color. Here's the link

That's interesting. I had a gallon of DBC butternut yellow mixed at my PPG dealer (Albert Kemperle) in June. I'm using the Deltron line for my entire paint job.
The sales guy said he had to make a call to their 'librarian' (if memory servers me correct, that was the name he stated) to get the mixing ratios for that color in DBC.
It's not applied to the car yet but I put a dab of paint on the car and it looks exact. Cost was $337 for the gallon.

Thank you guys.

I saw that TCP Global lists it but after my PPG guy said he couldn't mix it I thought maybe it was a mistake on their website. I have painted a couple of cars with the Restoration shop brand, in fact two of them are shown in their testimonials, but I wanted to use better quality materials for this car.

I will call around and see if I can source a Dupont dealer in my area.

Thanks again & I will let you all know what I find out..

Chick,
Thank you very much for your gracious offer, let me see what I come up around here and if I still come up bust I may try and take you up on your offer once I get a little closer. It will most likely be spring before its ready for color.
Thank you again,
 Nick

Have you considered using the single stage paint, and mixing in some clear in your top coats?   I think that looks much better than base/clear and closer to *original*, and still has a great shine once sanded and buffed out (like lacquer)..

Thank you, but after I shoot my first car with BCCC about 15 years ago, I have never looked back.  :) Honestly I just prefer 2 stage and since I do all of my painting out of my garage is gives me a more flexibility in case I run into a problem.
Thanks again for the suggestion,
Nick

Hi Nick,

If the paint supplier by me was able to mix a gallon of DBC as recent as this past June after he called into whatever central office he was referring to to get the ratios, then why can't your local dealer do it?
Just curious, unless your local guy doesn't mix on-site.

Mike,
I don't know, that's just what they told me over the phone. I probably need too just drive over there and talk to them in person to get the full story. It's good to know other places are able to mix it and I have no problem ordering it from somewhere else as our local PPG place is VERY expensive. Heck, for what they charge here I could buy enough material too do 3 cars using TCP Global.  ;) ;D

Thanks again to everyone for your help on this, at the rate I am going I am still few months out until it's ready for color. when I get a little closer I'll let you all know what I come up with.

Nick I hope you have good luck with it. Talk about expensive you should buy some of this Fathom Green. Paint, thinner and activator was 2 grand for my car.
