1967 - Orphans / 123377N13546D or 123377N135460 POP on eBay
« on: June 16, 2016, 12:07:54 PM »
I saw this POP on eBay and asked the seller to post the VIN. Currently it says 123377N13546D so I assume that last digit must be a 0. Car was originally purchased in Hopkins, Minnesota.

And even though the chances are slim, do a search of your VIN and partial VIN on Google once in a while.  eBay too.  Very simple to set up an automated search and receive an email with a match. Can't hurt and you wouldn't want to find out someday that you missed a chance. I do that regularly in case any docs show up somewhere.

Originality / Re: How to tell if console gauges are original to car
« on: May 31, 2016, 05:20:01 PM »
I had a discussion about this recently with William and learned a couple of interesting things.
I was told the oil line location through the firewall is a biggy.   Usually never put in the right spot with the correct rubber grommet when gauges are added.

I'd also be looking close at the wiring harness.  Factory gauge cars, like mine, and as I've been told by a couple of smart people here, should have cloth covering on both coil wires.  An odd clue I had not heard until recently. Reproduction wire harnesses don't come with it.....I tried.    I'd be crawling under the dash as well and checking the console and dash harness connections for obvious monkey business.
Of course as everyone knows it should have a clock as well, so many conversions done without.

This is exactly how I determined the gauges were NOT original on my '67.  Even though they are original gauges from another car and a correct gauge option speedo/tach cluster from another car was added (prior to 1982) to make it all seem factory installed, the oil pressure line was routed through the firewall behind the master cylinder.  The dash harness connections are not quite right either.

Edit: I went back and found the thread of this issue on TC to refresh my memory. If you're interested, here it is: http://www.camaros.net/forums/34-restoration-corner/259425-oil-pressure-line-console-gauge.html

Decoding/Numbers / Re: 67 SS Power Drum M/C Confusion
« on: May 15, 2016, 10:07:25 PM »
I had to keep searching for a suitable rebuildable or rebuilt on eBay.  I eventually found one but there don't seem to be a lot of 5460465 castings around. For drum brakes make sure to check a rebuilt for residual pressure valves or put them in if you are rebuilding one yourself. I found out that those are often left out of rebuilds and ended up putting them in myself on the one I got.  Your question and confusion about the pics was addressed here:  http://www.camaros.org/forum/index.php?topic=13164.0

Nice job Danny!  It was great to meet you and see the car we've been hearing about for all this time.  For all you guys who haven't met Danny, I can assure you he's as nice a guy in person as on these forums.  His passion for this hobby is infectious.  Well deserved recognition for keeping this car intact.

Sounds nice.  I'm going to the show on Saturday.  I'll come by and see the car and try to meet you if you're around.

General Discussion / Re: Dealer memorabilia - what do you have?

I have been collecting this stuff for years and have started showing some of it in last few years in places like SLS Carlisle and MCACN.

Do you have a booth at MCACN ?  I'll stop over and check it out this year if you do.

Do a regular search in eBay with the dealership name. Something might eventually pop up. That's how I found a reprint of a photo of Smith Motor Sales in San Antonio.  Only thing I have though.

Kinda funny how things escalate incorrectly. How many times have you seen chalk marks and such that are totally bogus and incorrect? My theory is someone had a car at a show that had a nice presentation albeit technically "wrong". Then, onlookers gawk at the car, go home and make/change their car to appear like the one at the previous show....and then another group sees THAT car at cruise night and the snowball effect gets started. Who was the first person to INCORRECTLY install the dreaded FORD fan sticker on a CHEVY fan shroud? See what I am getting at here?????

That's why this site and forum are such a great resource.

MW is a '67 suffix shown here:  http://www.camaros.org/diffs67.shtml
And partial VIN starts with 7

Maybe there was never a change date from the way I read this statement here on the CRG seat belt page:  "67 standard buckles can have the Fisher Body carriage emblem or the GM emblem on the release button. Both buttons were used throughout the model year."  http://www.camaros.org/seatbelt.shtml

Congratulations Danny!  I've gone the last 3 years so I plan on going this year too.  I'll find your car and hope to meet you too.

Also with drum brakes, make sure you have residual pressure valves installed.  They're easy to do yourself if a rebuilt unit doesn't have them, which I discovered is more likely to be the case.

Read about it here: http://www.camaros.org/brakevalve.shtml#rpv

Many aftermarket or replacement MCs will work fine.  The bleeders aren't necessary for brake action, they just make it easy to bleed out air that may become trapped in an angled MC.  I can assure you that the 5460465 will work as that is what I used when I replaced the parts store Bendix MC on my power drum brake '67.  BTW, that one without bleeders had worked fine for years back in the 80's when the car was a daily driver.  I did the same reading you did and was also confused by the pictures showing non-bleeder MC on a power booster but came to the same conclusion that Kurt pointed out above. Not sure the AIM even clearly shows bleeders. But pictures are just pictures.  Data speaks and certainly Kurt and the CRG have the data.  Unless more data surfaces, I'm convinced my car came with the 5460465 casting from the factory.  Finding a good one or a good rebuildable one may be a challenge, though.
