General Discussion / BBC valve cover clearance with brake booster
« on: July 09, 2021, 08:03:08 AM »
Does anybody know if these Ansen / CP style valve covers for a big block clear the 11" brake boosters on a 68 Camaro?

Originality / 68 Camaro 12 bolt rear end brake lines
« on: July 09, 2019, 02:25:33 PM »
Could someone with an original 68 12 bolt Camaro and multi-leaf springs, please post a few photos of the brake lines that go along the rear end. I'd like to see what shape they were from the factory and how they look mounted in position. I've seen a few photos of original brake lines on a 69 but none for a 68. I was told they're different.

Originality / 68 caliper brake line sizes

Bought a couple of 5455530 calipers from a swap meet and noticed there's 2 different thread sizes for the brake lines. Could someone please tell me why?

Thanks Scott, you've done a great job. As you said, I'm sure this will help others too because as was discussed there's no dimples in new sheet metal.
Regards Larry.

Yes Joe you're correct, no dimples in new sheetmetal. That would be great Scott, but I live in Australia so I'm not sure how we could make it happen.

Does anybody know of a drawing showing the dimensions for drilling all the trans tunnel holes in the correct position? Putting in some new sheetmetal and want to get it right. Got the photo off this site to show all the holes I'm talking about.

Originality / 68 subframe bushings
« on: February 28, 2019, 06:24:50 AM »
Going to replace all my subframe bushings soon and wanted some advice from members as to which brand they've used on their cars. Don't mind paying the dollars for quality but need some feedback as prices for sets vary quite a lot. Also, do I stick with rubber or go down the polyurethane path?

I read the article from your link Bob and the last post on there says mine is correct for 68 - 73 models with TH400. I'm not fussed either way. The only thing I was worried about is that it wasn't stretched or compressed from its original length.

I had to purchase a dipstick for my TH400 due to the original one being damaged. Managed to track down a used one and would just like to verify that the length is correct as the zig zag area is a little distorted. When measured from inside the cap where it bottoms on the filler tube to the tip is 24 ¼”. Is this correct?

Originality / 68 Camaro 396 TH400 kickdown harness
« on: October 01, 2018, 11:43:14 AM »
Could someone please post a photo showing the kickdown harness strapped to the engine harness just above the wiper motor. Had a look at the picture in the 68 Assembly Manual (section M40, Sheet A8) but it doesn't show much closeup detail of where to route the wires from the harness after it's strapped. Mine is just floating around at the moment and I want to do it properly.

Yes Tim, on eBay Australia. Maybe the Australian distributors got rich selling Sharkhide and retired  :)  I will ring around and see if anybody can sell me some at a better price. If I find anybody cheaper I'll let you know.

Thanks to everybody for your feedback on the products you use and your experience with them. Lots of likes here for the Sharkhide, which I'm leaning towards, but damn it's expensive in Australia. Cheapest price I can find for 1 quart is AU $160. Ouch.

Originality / Rust prevention on bare steel parts

What are all you restoration experts out there using to prevent rust on bare steel parts? I've seen the Exo-Armour, Rust Prevention Magic and Boeshield T-9 being advertised and the reviews don't seem too bad. Any members out there using these products or know of better ways to address the issue. Up until now I've been just applying a light coat of oil to parts with a rag but it attracts a lot of dirt.

Thanks Jim, you've come up with the goods again. At least I know with your car it's original, so there can be no doubt.
