Yes, I bet this was 124378L382665. Engine stamp looks good, IMO.

The seller is shooting for the moon. I heard that it was bought at an estate sale for $800.

That doesn't make any sense, because it is 124378L382665.

Do you mean 124378L332665, as suggested by X66 714?

Nice original looking paper work on this 1968 convertible.

It's not often you see window sticker, POP, Body and chassis broadcast sheets all together.

Interesting that the trim tag is 01D and the engine is 0209. Any explanation?

Perhaps my point was not clear. The last VIN on record from LOS is: 8L349164

VIN 8L382665 was never produced (unless there was some very odd anomoly). The car does not exist, therefore there is no owner of the car that would be willing to pay such an inflated price.

Good news, your hidden VIN does match your actual VIN.

Since your VIN was recorded as produced after your engine, the engine may be original.

The only thing that seems out of sequence is the trim tag, which could possibly have been replaced at any time. The only question is why? It is nothing special, so it's not for deceit. Maybe an abberation?

Can anyone help with the location of the spare tire bracket which spotwelds to the trunk floor on a '68 Big Block (L35) Coupe?
Prior - to - purchase floor replacement, and whoever installed the floor neglected to transfer this bracket; I am of the understanding/rumors that the location of this bracket differs from coupe/convertible as well as Big and Small block. Is this true?

There is no difference in small block big/block location. The only difference in location is coupe/convertible. You will not find the location in the assembly manual because Fisher Body installed that part.

Take a look at UPC 10 (p 132 in my book). It clearly shows the location differences and assembly instructions between coupe and conv. Interestingly, there is a note on UPC A2 (p 182): CONV. SEE RPO L35.

UPC L35 shows an extra "retainer" and a different pn for the bolt and instruction sheet. Not sure what that is all about, but as far as location, there is no difference between BB and SB.

ALL GM exterior polished stainless steel moldings (including windshield and backlite reveal moldings, convertible windshield inner garnish moldings, wheel trim rings, etc.) were flash-chromed after polishing to protect the stainless substrate from oxidation and dulling and maintain the icy-blue appearance. Whatever flash chrome remains on old moldings needs to be removed (it was only .0003"-.0005" thick - a third to a half a thousandth of an inch) before polishing, and the parts should be flash-chromed (clear chrome only) after polishing in order to maintain the original appearance.

Well, I am not an expert in chrome plating, but chromium is the element that is used in chrome plating to give it the shiny appearence. It is "steely-gray" in color so I fail to understand how it can be used to provide a clear coating. Perhaps it is just semantics, and "clear chrome" is not really clear. Please enlighten me on the subject. Your knowledge of the original GM processes is always appreciated.

My windshield and back glass trim is dent free but needs shined up. I talked to a guy who has polished trim with years of experience and he said he starts off with 180 grit sanding. I assume that will remove the flash chrome?  Has anyone had their trim re chromed with clear?  Was curious if people are just taking chrome off and polishing or what.

I have never seen any chrome flash plating on first generation Camaro stainless steel trim.  I believe all the trim is just solid stainless. I have sent out damaged trim to be repaired and it came back looking better than new and there was no chrome plating applied. I've been actually had to polish the rest of the stainless steel myself. And then it all matched.

As far as I know "Trim re-chromed with clear" is not a process, and I don't think it's even possible.

No way to tell by VIN alone.

Something is fishy. You better get a picture of the VIN tag if you are interested in buying it.

Scammers often copy information from legitimate ads, and that VIN is already documented on the Ohio car.
