General Discussion / Re: Split rotors

Two piece are the factory original. The one piece is all that is sold now. Unless you find some decent used ones on ebay or swap meet.
I havent used any one piece rotors, but I know many others who have.

Originality / 1967 z/28 smog pump
« on: July 09, 2007, 01:53:42 AM »
Jerry's Definative 67-68 z/28 book lists the correct smog pump as 5696104 for the 67 z/28.

Well I have looked high and low and actually came across a NOS in the box 6104 pump. At least the outside of the box had "5696104 AIR PUMP ASSY" on it.

The UPS LAbel was dated May 29, 1973

Inside the box was an AIR pump and the back side of the pump had the casting number of 5696132, which I see cast in all the 67 smog pumps.
It looks like a Julian date of 188? and a D5 on the back side.
This pump has the straight tubes coming out the back

It also has a build date code stamped on it: 2511A

Front side has what looks like a 67 in the middle of a wagon wheel and 5696211.

This doesnt appear to be a pump made in 67, does it?
My question would be - Is this the correct smog pump for a 67 z/28?

I know there are 2 versions of smog pumps for 67 chevrolets. One with straight tubes and one with an angled tube. Both say 5696132 on the back.
So judging by the one I have in the NOS box, the 5696104 pump was just the part number and not the casting number, right?

Here is a pic of the angled tube pump

Which is the right pump and what does the NOS one decode to for date.

It did it also, but wasnt that impressed with the photo copies of stuff they sent.
Almost everything that was in the package you could already find in a book or on the net.
Some of it was photo copies of the 69 chev dealer brouchure.

I guess I was expecting a whole lot more. I guess it's free, so it doesnt hurt.

Heres a pic of a 69 6-cyl car with them. These stripes are definately orig. Sorry it's the best pic I have of original stripes.

Restoration / Re: Paint for Hockey Stick Stripe and Rear of S.S.
« on: July 03, 2007, 01:53:53 PM »
Well I have had numerous sets of white and black NOS door stripes including the ones I just put on my car and they are not exactly high gloss, but I dont think they were meant to be. The fender stripe on my car when I bought it in 1980 was orig and it was gloss black. The door stripes are close but not as glossy as the paint. I still have a few sets left over somewhere in my pile of parts. I bought some of them in 81 from the dealer.
My original rockers had the orig paint on them and they were more like a 30-40% gloss.

Just wondering if you have tested washing them and how well the ink holds up?

I can look at mine, but right off the top those are not the correct originals. My 69 has the same 3841177 drums and they were used in later years also.
