General Discussion / Re: Ride Height Measurements
« on: January 17, 2008, 09:12:30 PM »
Hi John,

Regarding UPC 0 / A10 in the Assembly Manual...

Do you know if the measurement is taken from the ground to the flat finished part of the rocker panel, or to the "unfinished" flange that hangs a bit lower?

Thanks.

Site Comments/Discussion / Re: editing previous posts

I really need to be able to edit a post of mine. I referred to some pictures on a server that is now password protected. When the post is viewed, it requests a login. This is required by anyone viewing the entire page, not just the pictures I posted. I want to change the reference, but I can't edit the post. Can a moderator help?

Here is the example:

General Discussion / Re: Van Nuys Assembly Plant photos

Is the VIN of the last 1969 Camaro built in Van Nuys known? If so, what is it and what month/week was it produced?

According to the chart: http://www.camaros.org/geninfo.shtml#HowMany, looks like Camaro production ended in July 69. How was that documented?

Thanks.

Here is another tip... Google your VIN number or partial VIN. You never know what will come up. Google indexes so deep into websites that it may find a post on a forum, or in a web ad. I actually found a previous owner this way.

eBay listing:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&Item=330105315392&Category=140684

Description says that it was 1 of 5 built after Yenko acquired the rights to produce them in the 70s and never used.

Listed on "April 1st".

What steering wheel was standard for the 69 Z? Same as the base coupe?

Thanks.

Decoding/Numbers / LA/Nor Vehicle ID numbers
« on: March 21, 2007, 08:49:31 PM »
Since the vehicle ID numbers were assigned in sequence at the plant, could a car produced in LA have the same last 6 digits as a car produced in Norwood? For example, could there be 124379L520247 and 124379N520247 VINs? Or are they unique?

I can't say I am having the same luck as lakeholme. Missouri gave me a hard time, but told me the previous state of registration. Arkansas provided me with some more info, but it was copies of titles with the names/street blacked out. They stated privacy laws and then referred me to the previous state.

On to Colorado...

Maintenance / Re: 69 horn repair

Not sure if your horns are beyond this type of "repair"... Both of my horns were frozen and did not work. I simply sprayed a ton of WD-40 into the horn opening and let it soak over night. One of them came back to life and has been working fine ever since.

I have a good relationship with my State Farm agent where I have my daily cars insured as well as by business policies. I spoke to him about it and he felt that they were NOT right for classic car insurance and said I should go with specialty insurance. Maybe he just has little experience in classic car specialty, but he does seem to have his act together in general. No warm & fuzzy feeling there...

I use JC Taylor http://www.jctaylor.com/. Although I have never made a claim, my friend (w/ a 71 Camaro) has and did not have any issues. The price is great as both of my cars combined is about $500/yr for full coverage). They use "agreed value" and there is no mileage limit, but they do ask you to prove that you have a daily driver.

None of my business, but I will ask anyway (sorry)... I am curious to know what a real COPO POP sold for, especially to someone who was going to make a clone.  Care to share the amount?

For all of you who cannot afford the real thing at the B-J auction... not to worry. They have graciously offered up toy versions of "6 awesome rides that recently sold on the auction block". Only 24.95!

Better hurry, since they are a limited production of only 3,500 units.

I wonder if it is in their business plan to place these soon-to-be collectibles up for auction in 2008 Scottsdale  ;)

Hey now... My mullet and I would have been very insulted if you said that to me back then!

I can handle it now :-)
