When I pulled up my carpet in my '69 the floors were grey. As far as I can tell nothing has ever been done to the floors. From underneath, I think mine would of been flat black.?.?.

The "Restoration Batteries" are famous (infamous?) for short lives in normal service - a better choice is a current replacement Delco model 24-7YR for about sixty bucks, which will last at least seven years (that's what I use in all my "toys", haven't bought one since 2001). A "battery topper" will make it look absolutely original, if that's important to you. All domestic cars are negative ground.

Basically what I would do was get the address for the DMV and then write a letter explaining what I was needing. I would include all my contact information, the VIN for the car and and a little explanation for why I was wanting the info. I got the info for the '68 Spitfire about 10 years ago so there was not so much of this privacy stuff to worry about. The '69 Camaro was done about 4 years ago so getting info was a bit harder.
I don't know how Florida DMV responds, but I do know that the car was titled in Arkansas before me. I believe Arkansas is pretty tight on the privacy thing so I'm not sure if I will be able to get info from them.

I have to say that supv26's story is pretty inspiring start the process. When writing these letters to the DMV, what should I be asking for to get the most chance for a positive response? Care to post a sample letter?

I too was afraid of having clamped rubber hoses from the pump to the carburetor. Since my motor is not original I bought all Edelbrock parts. I have the carburetor, hard polished fuel line, polished filter, braided line and pump. I attached all of this stuff with Russel AN fittings so it would be a leak free and pressure tight system. Getting the pump to fit properly took some ingenuity but it all came together and works great.

When the battery finally shot craps in my Camaro a month or so ago I just took it out and set it back so when I get my new one I will have it for the core. I also didn't want the dead battery just sitting in there taking a chance it could leak and since it is winter I am not driving it. Well, now I have forgotten if it was negative ground or positive ground. I am almost certain that most Chevy's were negative ground but I thought I'd better ask the mechanical experts before I put the new battery in.

Also, what would be a good recommendation for a new battery. Wal-Mart has a wide selection at their everyday low prices but would I be better off getting one from another source. The reason Wal-Mart has come to mind is the guarantee they carry and there is a Wal-Mart just about anywhere you go. The only thing I dislike about the better quality Wal-Mart Batteries is the bright yellow top! That would kind of stand out like a sore thumb with my set up.

Oh, LOL, when I took the old battery out I took my battery tray out and brush painted it with POR 15. I did this secretly in my garage late one night and hopefully no one saw me do it. I also brush painted some POR 15 onto the area directly below the battery and tray, out of sight from any car show judge, just in case a battery would ever leak and I didn't see it. When the new battery goes in this hand brush painted paint will not be seen and I will feel at ease knowing the metal is protected from corrosion with POR 15. ;)

I have tried the "quiet" search on 2 vehicles. The first was a 1968 Triumph Spitfire. I was able to get information from each state by writing a letter to them and requesting the information. I started with the last known state and worked backwards as each state would respond. On the Spitfire I discovered the car had about 18 owners and when I thought I was almost to the first one, the last state would not respond. They indicated to me that the privacy act would not allow them to send the information.

The second was my '69 Camaro. I got all the info on the MO owners, me and the guy I bought it from. It came from Iowa into Missouri and I was unable to get any info out of Iowa. I did discover through NICB that the Camaro was originally sold from Plains Chevrolet on Amarillo Texas in 1969. I called the dealer ship and to my surprise were still in business but that they had changed owners and had moved a couple of times so all the old records were gone.

NICB may or may not have the info. I was just lucky and got in touch with an agent that would give me the information. There may also be information in NICB if there has aver been an insurance claim with the vehicle and the insurance was a participating agent with them. CARFAX will probably not have any info since their data base deals with vehicles with a 17 digit VIN.

I may be wrong but with the MSD6A you may need to install the in-line filter from the ignition. Not long ago I tried one of those replacement modules from MSD for my standard HEI and in the kit was a little wire that was supposed to be attached in between the tach and the distributor. Just a though and an idea.................

Originality / Rear trunk emblem and spoiler question.

My '69 is an X44 model. I am not sure but I think it originally did not come with a rear spoiler or the front spoiler. If it hadn't been originally equipped with the rear spoiler would my car have had an emblem on the trunk lid and if so, where would it have been? Also, same question if it did come with the spoiler?? Thanks!!!

2 years after I bought the car I tried finding the guy again to get the motor. No dice!!! He was impossible to find but his wife told me he had sold it for junk. Yes, I know, I am standing here waiting for some one to come kick my a$$ up between my shoulder blades! I was stupid for not getting it in the first place.

Miss Rolla is from Rolla, MO. This is a small college town on I-44 half way between Springfield, MO and St. Louis, MO. I work in Rolla. This picture was taken in St. James MO at a cruise in 2 years ago.

Yes it definitely is my car and has been for a few years now. I found this on ebay and it was in the same state where I live. It was about 3 hours away so I had a chance to go look at it before the auction was over. This is a 1969 X44 model Camaro with a 305 small block engine equipped with an Edelbrock 600CFM 4 barrel carb with the "Stage 2" kit installed. The motor also has roller rockers, crane cam, and a double roller timing chain/gear. It has headers with 3 inch reduced to 2 1/2 into Flowmaster 2 chamber mufflers. Factory 'numbers matching' 3 speed in the floor transmission with 308 non-posi rear end.

When I found the car I checked all the usual places for rust and didn't find any. The odometer showed 44,000 miles but I have now way to authenticate it. It originally had a 307 engine and like an idiot I didn't take the motor when I bought the car. The guy took the original engine out and had this little 305 built at a speed shop so his wife could drive this car to cruise in's and shows. It's a very nice driver and the high gears make for a great ride when going to shows.

The paint that was on the car was ok and I won a lot of trophies with it but one morning on my way to a show a deer decided that it was time I got a new paint job. A deer ran into the right side of my car and put some wrinkles in it. After fighting with the insurance and 6 months later it had a heck of a lot better paint job. I won a few more trophies with it too. When I got the car it had a hunter green and then I put a little lighter shade of green on it. IT is just a tad darker than Rally Green. The car was originally Frost Green with the dark green interior. Oh, BTW, the back seat, head liner, sail panels are still original. The front seat covers and carpet are new.

Last summer I didn't get it out much due to the fact I bought a motorcycle so the Camaro stayed in the garage most of the summer. The battery shot craps on me so now it needs a new one. I have a heated and cooled garage and it has it's own stable so nothing will get around it. Here are a few more pics from when  I got it to now.
