General Discussion / Re: Ideas for removing Paint from fan shroud
« on: October 05, 2020, 10:13:04 PM »
I know easy off takes paint off but I'm concerned about damaging the plastic. I wetted it down with brake fluid earlier so far no success.

I need to remove spray bomb paint from my original fan shroud. I'm hesitant to use paint stripper on plastic, not sure about glass beading. Any ideas, advice? Thanks

I'm curios why it will install per the assembly manual on one car and not on another. My car has a GM service replacement core support and a aftermarket voltage regulator, maybe there is some variation there. I'll compare the base on a original regulator vs my replacement tomorrow.

The assembly manual shows a ground for the turn signals/ parking lights. My light assemble has no ground wire am I missing something?

James, that is a good work-around, the capacitor fits between the radiator tank and the core support. I attached a pic of the assembly manual page dedicated to the capacitors. I'm not as well versed in the totality of the manual as some, maybe there is another page I'm not aware of. As a aside I wonder where that ground wire is attached on the original car?

Thanks for the response.

I'm installing the V regulator with the radio capacitor, but it doesn't fit. The Capacitor won't fit between the radiator tank and the regulator the way pictured. I turned the mounting bracket around so the Capacitor sits up on the ledge of the regulator, but it's still wedged between radiator tank and the regulator. Ignore the L-6 reference in the picture it is for the illustration above the one pictured. Anybody have a picture of a original BB with radio capacitor on the regulator? Thanks

Restoration / Inner Fender support bracket install

I'm about ready to install the front clip on the 68. Is it possible to install the brackets, one less thing to work around and align, after the front clip is sitting in place It looks like it would be difficult to get to the bolts attaching them to the cowl especially on the driver side once the front clip is in place. Has anybody tried this or have any tips? Thanks

Restoration / Re: Door Weatherstripping Opinions

Update on the weatherstripping. I originally purchased the OER latex roof rail weatherstripping($200) a couple years ago. For the doors I was going to use the same brand, but they don't make latex anymore. After the responses on here, I called Camaro Specialties, they sold their product to Soffseal. At the spring Carlisle I mention to a rep at a Camaro parts vendor the gap I have between the window and the weatherstripping. His response was they could never get the latex to seal properly. You need the Soffseal. Well $55 later, Soffseal on the roofrail and the doors, I still have the gap. I've adjusted the glass again and again, add 1/8" lift to the weatherstripping on the door, added 1/8" to the vertical roof rail by making the seal between body and rail thicker. I can't roll the top of the door in it with mess up the door and Quarter panel alignment. See the light in the picture need to fill that gap. Sorry for the long reply.

I used to visit to read the mail, but there is a learning curve in navigating the new web design that I'm not willing to invest the time in. The political stuff doesn't bother me. I can take as good as I get or just ignore it.

It's time to purchase weatherstripping for the doors. A search came up with Metro latex and Camaro Specialties as the preferred brands, but the most recent thread was 5 years old. Are they still the ones to use or is there another company to consider? Thanks

Originality / Re: 1968 M-40 Kick down wiring?
« on: May 15, 2020, 03:33:41 AM »
Just a update, I believe I've resolved the wiring connections. Using the wiper wiring pages in the Aim I was able to, through the process of elimination and a little sleuthing, determine the correct kick down jumper connections. I thought the Aim would be more detailed in regards to the jumper connections. Thanks for the replies as always.

I'll be there. The closest I've come to knowing anybody that has the virus is my sons boss. He was ill, similar to the flu, has recovered after about a week. Everything else has been a friend of a friends  friends sisters cousin. I'm not buying the sky is falling rhetoric.
