Restoration / Re: I need rocker panel moldings

3 years ago ricks were the top choice among  repops on this site. I have them on my JL8 and they look good.Sitting  right  next to NOS ones they still look good.

I bought some c--v-x ones  first and tried to install them because someone said they were fine.Nope, they resembled a combo of crinkled up tin foil and dog crap.

Unless a better one came out. I would recommend Ricks.

I looked , and it has more of a possibility of being a K19 10 28, I have found more of that date than any other YH.

The 70 monte carlo used the YH wheel until going to the FW wheel. The FW is the most common 15x7 ralley, or probably any size rally ever made, due to the monte carlo.

Ive picked up alot of YH wheels over the last 15 years. My own research shows all the Jan wheels were all 11, Feb were  all 26 etc. . Ive never seen another day stamped for these months.

I have never seen a march wheel or july wheel of 69.

For an 02D car I would have to say it would be a 1-11- date. The next date run is 2-26 .I believe  it would be too close to your car date. The 2-26 date is on my 03D car.All the wheel dates would match.

The trim ring would be the four outside clip ones.

Thanks to a friend of mine,I just got off the phone with a man who used to own the dealership where my JL8 car was bought brand new.Long story short he thinks there is a slim chance he may have paperwork on it. Very Slim.but he is going to look this weekend. I told him the paperwork is very valuable to me and I would pay alot for it. He said he would give them for free, and I said again how much more valuable the car would be with the factory paperwork, and I would pay alot, so he looks real hard.. He remembers the car well and said he actually sat in it before it was delivered. Remembers the buyer, the salesman, the whole story, all of it.

I had called the dealership years ago looking for paperwork, which was renamed Meier chevrolet in 92, from Feese-George Chevrolet as it was in 69 in Sullivan Mo  .They told me all docs were only kept 7 years. And they  never had the ones from 69.Thought that was end of the line.

The owner of the dealership in 69 till 92 told me he destroyed alot of paperwork when the dealership sold, but still has some in a building, not sure what though.Mr Feese is genuinely  intersted in seeing the car again. Its hard to beleive a dealer would remember a car from 40 years ago that was in that day, just a new car.

Probably too good to be true.To me it would be like winning the Lottery.

Restoration / Re: Radiator, recore or replace.
« on: September 15, 2008, 07:42:49 PM »
I decided to keep my original radiator intact so I  bought a new one from Tamraz. After a few minor issues due to sitting for a year without driving it,I got it running perfect, and it runs cool. I then decided to do the modification where you tee into the vacuum to you chocke pull off, and then to your vacuum advance that is listed in this thread. When I did this, it started burning really rich and smoking out the exhaust. I gave it a rev and it backfired.

Then I changed it all back and it quit smoking and ran fine again. What did I miss.

Thanks,Chris

Maintenance / Re: 69 z/28 loses prime, any ideas?
« on: September 15, 2008, 06:14:59 PM »
Well, I just went back to the garage and it didnt start. Then I dedided to tap on the carb numerous times with the plastic end of a big screwdriver, especially on the front bowl. I hit the key it fired right up and ran perfect.

I guess the float was stuck.

Maintenance / 69 z/28 loses prime, any ideas?
« on: September 15, 2008, 05:35:39 PM »
First off I will say my 69 z has sat for nearly a year without driving it. Between the heating problems it had and other things going on with family, there wasnt much time to think about it.

I put a new radiator in today and it runs cool. Im happy with that. But when I went to start it, it needed a shot of gas down the carb to get it going. It ran ok idling, it seemed a little slow coming off  idle.It ran better than that when I parked it.

Now If you  let it sit for a half hour  it wouldnt start without a shot of gas,or carb cleaner down the carb. It is not flooding. It seems to be losing its prime.

Any ideas? Thanks

General Discussion / Re: Repro Spiral Shocks
« on: April 18, 2008, 04:50:02 AM »
I have the repop spiral shock on the JL8, with new front  springs and the repop bias ply tires. I think the ride sucks. But I was after looks.

My plain 69 Z has radial T/As and  monroe gas shocks. It rides and handles much better.

What I couldnt believe was for the  $300 you pay for the repop sparals, you didnt even get the  bushings, washers and nuts etc, that you get with a cheap set.

General Discussion / Re: Style trim or not?
« on: March 18, 2008, 12:16:49 AM »

An x77 with a flat hood and no spoilers  to me  is like a super model with ugly clothing, no makeup, with no jewelry .Not to mention flat........,you know.

I added style trim, and ducted hood   to an x77 JL8. No regrets here.

This is just my opinion.

General Discussion / Re: Tires on a "Driver" --which one???
« on: January 21, 2008, 02:12:43 AM »
For a 69 Z John Z is right as usual.

My green 69 Z had original  type tires on it when I got it. they were shot. I cant tell you what the metric equivelent BFG had in their charts 13 years ago but whatever it was, it was way too short.

I brought my tire in and compared it to new ones and the 216/65/15 was the closest match. So I bought them and they look and perform perfect.

I bought them for my JL8 but then decided to use the repop tires. Happy thing is I bought a project 87 Z for my son. The tires were shot. The size for the 87  is 215/65/15. Its like the tires were free!!!!!!!

In my opinion BFG radial T/As are the best looking tire on the market.

Decoding/Numbers / Re: SB Piston GM part #
« on: December 10, 2007, 11:37:51 PM »
OK, lets see if I get this straight. It is a factory 302 piston, right?

The TRW forging  nuimber is  like many GM part #s of that era, even the same number of digits, thats is why I assumed it was a GM  part number.

I have some 70s vintage overbore pistons and they actually have 2210A stamped on them, these dont. The forging # appears to be 186-99.

I knew John Z would have the answer, correct me if I misunderstand. THANKS!!!
