General Discussion / Too good to be true, probably.
« on: January 26, 2010, 06:46:03 PM »
Thanks to a friend of mine,I just got off the phone with a man who used to own the dealership where my JL8 car was bought brand new.Long story short he thinks there is a slim chance he may have paperwork on it. Very Slim.but he is going to look this weekend. I told him the paperwork is very valuable to me and I would pay alot for it. He said he would give them for free, and I said again how much more valuable the car would be with the factory paperwork, and I would pay alot, so he looks real hard.. He remembers the car well and said he actually sat in it before it was delivered. Remembers the buyer, the salesman, the whole story, all of it.

I had called the dealership years ago looking for paperwork, which was renamed Meier chevrolet in 92, from Feese-George Chevrolet as it was in 69 in Sullivan Mo  .They told me all docs were only kept 7 years. And they  never had the ones from 69.Thought that was end of the line.

The owner of the dealership in 69 till 92 told me he destroyed alot of paperwork when the dealership sold, but still has some in a building, not sure what though.Mr Feese is genuinely  intersted in seeing the car again. Its hard to beleive a dealer would remember a car from 40 years ago that was in that day, just a new car.

Probably too good to be true.To me it would be like winning the Lottery.

Maintenance / 69 z/28 loses prime, any ideas?
« on: September 15, 2008, 05:35:39 PM »
First off I will say my 69 z has sat for nearly a year without driving it. Between the heating problems it had and other things going on with family, there wasnt much time to think about it.

I put a new radiator in today and it runs cool. Im happy with that. But when I went to start it, it needed a shot of gas down the carb to get it going. It ran ok idling, it seemed a little slow coming off  idle.It ran better than that when I parked it.

Now If you  let it sit for a half hour  it wouldnt start without a shot of gas,or carb cleaner down the carb. It is not flooding. It seems to be losing its prime.

Any ideas? Thanks

Decoding/Numbers / SB Piston GM part #
« on: December 09, 2007, 06:29:57 PM »
Hi, I have a set of used pistons I got many years ago that I always assmumed were 69 302 pistons since they came with a 69 302 crank and pink rods. The part # on the underside of piston appears to be a GM #3927172 TRW,they are domed. I checked the fact book and thats not the right one for 69.

I checked my chevrolet by the #s and they dont have part #s listed for pistons.

Any Help?

Thanks.

Restoration / Radiator, recore or replace.
« on: October 07, 2007, 01:20:47 PM »
I have the original UH radiator in in my car,69 z/28. The engine is  fresh,  rebuilt .060 over,  bone stock 302 otherwise.

It has a heating problem I suspect is the radiator. I  dont know if I should recore my original, or buy an aftermarket. I dont really want to devalue the original.Would it be wiser to remove the original radiator, keep it original in the garage, and use an aftermarket in the car? Or does it not devalue the UH radiator by recoring it?

Actually I used to work in a radiator shop/body shop  for a couple of years while in college. (nasty work,in my opinion) I dont want to try a boil out because old radiators usually didnt come out so well most of the time.

If it gets down to an aftermarket, whose is the best for performance and original appearance?

Looking for some opininions,thanks Chris

Originality / " cowl induction" spacer for air cleaner on 69 z/28
« on: August 27, 2007, 10:43:12 PM »
I put a cowl induction air cleaner on my Z.It was originally a flat hood open element air cleaner.

I was under the understanding that the z/28 had a short spacer ring between the  air cleaner and the flange that has the seal on it.Like an 1"tall. So I put one on my car.

I was talking to a guy I met at a car show and he said the spacer doesnt belong on the z/28.He has alot of 69 camaros, 2 Z/28s. I find it hard to doubt him. But I got that info from somewhere a while back.

what is correct?

Thanks.

« on: July 22, 2007, 04:34:05 PM »
HI, I was wondering if anyone here was going to the Super Car Reunion in Collinsville Illlinois next weekend. Weather and work permitting I am going to try and be there on saturday. The St.Louis Camaro Club has a  cruise/show outside on Saturday, thats where Ill be . All the Yenko and COPO,Motion cars  inside Friday and Saturday.

If you are a camaro enthusiast, its worth a look if you are anywhere near.

If you go, look me up, you cant miss the car, 69 lemans blue Z/28 with licence plates that read JL8- Z28.That is one place I can go without someone asking me what the plate is supposed to mean. :)

Restoration / stickers on core support and fan shroud 0f 69 z/28
« on: January 27, 2007, 08:11:36 PM »
Hi I was looking on ebay and saw an orange 69 z/28 car that had 2 stickers on the core support and one on the fan shroud. I know one on the core support would be the timing sticker. Is the other a high octane fuel sticker? the one on the fan shroud looks like a sticker for the antifreeze.None of the stickers are legible from the pics. If  all these are correct, what is the proper placement of them.thanks
