I updated John's assembly article. I added some more pictures within the text and then added other assembly pictures in galleries. It went from about 20 original pictures to almost 50 high-quality pictures

Lots of details in the pictures - you can see the broadcast code on the rear brake drum, the carb covers to make sure parts don't fall into the carb, the broadcast sheet taped to the axle, etc. And you can see John off to the side in one of the pictures. :)

I was especially glad to see the picture of the 'Gas tank blackout'. Was that picture taken at the LOS plant? I know we have discussed this before in CRG because my 67 04B LOS survivor has the tank sprayed black (with lot of runs) and and some felt it wasn't factory but was done by the owner. IF I decide to restore the car, I most definitely will leave the tank black.

Thanks Kurt! Those pictures are fantastic and the details are very easy to see. A few of the 6 cylinder pics are nice! Us 6 banger guys will appreciate them. I also like the other cars.

Almost all of those pictures are at LOS. Have people seen 68's or 69's with gas tank blackout?
I've never seen it on a NOR car, btw.

Yes on 68 LOS cars (I'll need to confirm on 69's), I too have not seen on NOR cars.
I do like the "Built By The Number 1 Team"
I'm sure I've posted it before but this is the NOR sample that was on the green 68.

It's not undercoat, it's gas tank blackout.

The gas tanks were blacked out on all three 1st gen years at the LOS plant. Attached are pics of original blackout on a December '68 built Z28. Very original example.

Dang it Another LOS detail discovered. Wonder if the Judging Manuals will be updated and the Hobby Shift to correct this omission on "Future" restorations, I am sure only the Hardcore will Spray over a Beautiful Fresh Quanta-Spectrum gas tank.
This fact has been hidden by the preponderance of West Coast Cars getting Dealer or owner service modifications of the 13.99$ dollar entire underbody-"undercoating" service so prevalent around here

Hi Jon, as we know NOR dip painted the gas straps so they are black! It appears and I should have checked this out on the two 67 survivors at MCACN, but did LOS paint them or leave them bare with only coverage the blackout?

It looks like the bottom of the support was painted with the tank blackout and the top was not painted. Funny, I remember seeing many Camaro's with some tanks painted and some not. I attributed it to optional dealer undercoating.

Chick, in my experience the tank straps have all been painted black regardless of the LOS or NOR plant. The blackout on the bottom of the tank was done after the tank was installed in the car. In my example pics, the upper part of the tank strap does not show paint while the rest of it does. I can only assume the original black paint on the strap was not thick enough to keep it from having rust form after this many years but the extra black when the tank got sprayed was enough to keep the rest of the strap looking black.

Jon M's former Mountain Green 67 Z from Vintage Certification @ MCACN 2021. The carpet in the VC judging area was purple that year so the reflection is obvious. The fuel tank straps are black and the tank blackout is shown.

Both my VanNuys 69's have original gas tanks. The straps are black. I know my 11B RS/SS had the blackout. I always thought this was painted by a previous owner. My 02A Z28 has a pristine gas tank dated 25 69 with the updside down backwards 5. The tank looks like new from what I recall. Broadcast sheet was retrieved from it before I owned it, so I know its been down.
I will go in the garage and check this out now. Never knew this was a thing.

My 02A doesnt have the blackout on the tank. Its definately the original but its possible a previous owner could have removed it.
