VIN was final assembled on or about October 7, 1968. Car has an 05C X33 body tag; 3rd week of May, 1969.

One or both tags are not original to the car, hidden VINs may not match.

Thats nonsense. I have seen several Z/28s with console mount tape players. Back in the day I scrapped a non-A/C L65 4-speed with one. Took hours to get the unit, wiring, speakers removed intact.

Check out the w/s for one of the Z/28s in Jerrys '69 book.

U57 ordered for a car without a console mounted the tape player under the dash. Shown on U57 pages A2; A5-7.

I suspect you read that in Appendix D: 1969 Camaro Trivia in Jerry MacNeish's 1969 Camaro book. It was one of my contributions. Way back in the '70s I started documenting '69s. No internet then so one communicated with other like-minded people via Hemmings Motor News and Old Cars Weekly. That's how I became acquainted with Warren Malkin, Jr. who was doing essentially the same thing on the East Coast. Still have all the stuff Warren sent over 40 years ago including two cars he was certain had been built with the yellow light AM/FM stereo. Both Z/28s; one 05A build, the other 05E. The comment in the book implies the change was made for the extended production run; we weren't certain at the time so that was what we went with.

The AIM copies that have been around now for over 40 years were not necessarily complete and may not have contained later updates. All hardcopy in those days; someone had to manually change out pages. Some details may have never been changed. Sometime during late February at both Norwood and Van Nuys, Chevrolet reversed the position of the horns, placing the high note horn on the passenger side. This is documented in original magazine photos. I have also noted it on several undisturbed, original cars. The Assembly Manual [Section 12 page A5] was never updated.

It's possible it was not originally a 396. An L48 TH350 also had that axle as standard equipment.

However, it is a very nicely restored Z11. IMHO it would easily sell for the asking price or more at a major auction. L48 Z11s have crossed six figures.

VIN tag is from a Camaro built at the Norwood, OH plant on or about February 7, 1969

Body tag is from a Camaro built at the Van Nuys, CA plant on or about December 5, 1968.

The car was auctioned April 2005; con VIN on the cowl at that time was 9L511245. As the original VIN tag installation has been breached, titling and registration could be a problem.

That is likely N500003, a Pilot built on a '68 floor pan. No body tag. Hard to believe they sold it.

Restamp IMHO.

General Discussion / Re: Late '69 3/8 Fuel line
« on: October 21, 2023, 04:19:56 PM »
That's not accurate.

For '69, Chevy used different motor mounts and frame brackets for the 307/327 and 302/350 engines. The 307/327 parts were carried over from 67-68. 302/350 frame brackets/mounts were a new design, incorporating an interlock feature. The frame brackets are shorter and narrower; the mounts are taller.

The problem arises when 67-68 motor mounts are used on the '69 302/350 frame bracket. They fit but are wider. It is a sloppy fit, and will allow the engine to move around, causing perpetual clutch chatter and some fitment problems as the engine will be positioned too low.

Each design places the engine in the same position. Don't mix the parts.

There was no 04D at Norwood so has to be a Van Nuys built car. N556334 is a Norwood VIN, final-assembled on or about December 6, 1968.

Something has been re-stamped.
