My z has some problems with the front calipers. The mechanic helping me is concerned the pistons are pretty rusty. I am wondering, can someone rebuild these with new pistons? I have seen kits but with no pistons.  My buddy has a set of calipers off a 69 or 70 chevelle and the pistons measure just over 2.75 inches in diameter. Would these work? we put mine back on and didnt measure them.
also,  does anyone stainless steel sleeve these like corvettes?

69 has one piston, earlier used 2. I was browsing the classic industries catalog and they have pistons. Not sure which one is right but its a start!

I'm confused; the disc brake calipers on my '68 Z/28 have four pistons each!   :)

You are correct Paul LOL. 4 piston just like the Corvette . The 69 use's a single piston caliiper which I dont think Lonestar repairs .

NAPA Auto Parts has the pistons. I used their kits to rebuild mine and done them myself.

Bill;
Did you see the pair of calipers 5463633 dated on ebay, the buy it now of $75 a pair and he has multiple dates.
Mine are too severely pitted for a rebuild they need a sleeve. So these would be a great set if you can figure dates you have/need.

Thats no buy it now.  Starting bid is 75.00  Be careful of dates. There is a misconception what is casting numbers and what is manufacture dates.
I had my calipers rebuilt by Calipers Online.  Great job. http://calipersonline.com/contact-us.aspx

Here is the link regarding date codes. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=427546&Searchpage=1&Main=41719&Words=5463633&Search=true#Post427546

check your brake hoses first. the 69 calipers are bullit proof. a friend of mine changed both calipers, had the same problem, the found out the brake hoses had collapsed internally.

Oops, maybe you could get them for $75.00. Donny did they resleeve your single pistons?
I haven't seen anyone specifically say they sleeve single piston units.

1969 single piston calipers have a stationary seal in the caliper bore and the piston seals against it. It really doesn't matter if the caliper has pits in it because it doesn't provide a seal.Therefore there is no need to re-sleeve it. If your pistons are pitted that's a problem that would contribute to a leak. George

Thanks guys for all the info. I had a hose go bad too. Weird deal until we found no fluid coming out hose. I will check with napa. Sometimes they still have basic parts and i forget to check there. I think my bores were ok, just rusty pistons.
