Was wondering what color the inner part of the heater box (under dash) should be, the same as the outer 60-70% gloss?  Or is it glossier? Or does it really matter?

Regards,
Jerry K.

I'd call it semi-flat; very low gloss.

Here's a few closes-up the inner heater box from my '69 LA car.  Based on inspection, I  belive the color is closer to the top of the dash - the "textured" or "suede" finish.   For reference,  PPG # 9317.

Hans and John - Thank you so much!!!  Would you consider that a Satin finish?

PPG 9317 is the paint code.  It's not a smooth paint, rather it has a suede texture to it.

Here's the link to the PPG paint chip chart.  It's under "Flat Colors"

SEM texture coating will produce that finish. Available in aerosol and quarts. PPG DX1999 is the texture additive on the mixing bank.

Thanks for the paint information.  One other quick question....  I took the whole unit apart to restore it and now I'm ready to reassemble, my question is what type of foam to use that acts as a seal, the original foam gets dry rotted and falls apart and is on both sides of the flap, also what is the best adhesive to use, the original looks like black tar :-)

I believe you can use 3 M strip caulk.  I got mine at Orielly Auto Parts.

Thanks Mac, did you or has anyone else ever replace the foam that is on the main flap and if so what did you use?  Something that could last a long time considering the heat that blows on it.
