Guys do you know if Chevy cast dates on there crankshafts at the foundry? I have a BB crank and it looks like a raised letter 69 near the top of the front throw? Did they do this?

I don't know.  All I ever look for is the casting number.  A date on a crankshaft is not important to me.

Why?  When is the last time you had to pull the pan at a show to have them verify the crankshaft was correctly dated for your car?

It may have a casting date if it is a cast crank.  See this link for where to look.

Some may have a forging date, but I am not sure on that.

Forgings weren't dated, although many had a code adjacent to the forging number that identified the set of forging dies used to make the part.

My bad. I thought he was asking about big block cranks in general.
