Well it's been a long time since I've been here.
My brother, who owned this car, stumbled across the guy who owned it before him! THAT guy has been searching for this car for a long time. It seems like there are several twists to the story and I thought I'd share.
The car was originally dark brown, which was a shock to my brother and myself. It would be so cool to know that back then and look for signs of it. They did a hell of a job making it black, we had no clue, back in the 70s.
Knowing that, we may know a little bit about what happened to it, going back maybe 20 years ago.
We know my brother sold it to a guy near Milwaukee.
We know a body shop owner bought one out of West Allis WI , (that's near Milwaukee). The body shop owner lived in Beaver Dam, WI. We know that car was there and was a JL8 car, but we knew it was brown (!) so we figured this wasn't the car my brother owned.
Now that we know that, and that the paint was crap in 1978 or so, seems likely that a body shop owner would repaint it back to original. He probably had a good enough eye to tell it wasn't original, and also to read the paint code.
But about the time when I learned about the Beaver Dam car, I also heard that this same car came off a jack and killed the owner!
So now I don't really know the story after that, and right now I'd say there is a lot of hear-say involved.
Later today I'm getting together with my brother and the prior owner and we can compare notes about it.
I was just searching for this post and thought, even though it's been 14 years, that I'd do this update.

Sounds like William was spot-on with his info about the car. :)

All Camaro (and cars) used DOT3 brake fluid. DOT4 is interchangeable with DOT3.

Race car driver and body shop owner from Beaver Dam that had the accident name was Jeff Falbe I believe.
Don't think the camaro was involved in accident but I did hear he owned one.
