thank you for the advice. would that be in the assembly manual, or where would I look to see about adjusting it? Also if it is not an adjustment issue, just an old original part, Stingr69, what is the part number for the actuator? thanks for the help as always fellas

If the issue is the solenoid that actuates the flapper door, below is a link for Heartbeat City. Maybe start with manually opening and closing the flapper door to ensure there is no binding.

Loosen the clamp that holds the solenoid and slide it far enough so the door opens all the way. Then tighten the clamp. Pretty simple when you look at it.

GM # 1114427. It is in the AIM under "ZL2"

I see the repros that have the part number embossed into the side and they claim it is like original. I have not seen that embossed number on an original GM piece but I have not seen them all so who knows. The GM ones I have seen did not have the number embossed on them.

I loosened the clamp and moved the actuator, where the door opened all the way. The thing I realized when it allowed the door to open all the way then it wouldn't close. So my question now is- Does the car have to be running to allow the actuator full motion, or should I be able to get a full range of motion with the car off?

Doesn't matter if the car is running or not; as long as the key is in "on" or "accessory" position, the solenoid will get 12 volts when the switch closes.

ok so the the key in either position it should have a full range of motion. I will try that
