Can a fold down rear seat set up be used in a 1969 Camaro Convertible.  I have never seen one but have the chance to get one for nothing from a buddy who is chopping his up to race.

to the best of my knowledge, it does not fit. but if you can get it for free take it! make sure you get the brkts that are welded to the floor.

Yes, RPO A67 (Folding Rear Seat) was an option on both the 67-69 Camaro Coupe and Convertible.

it fits a LOT better than a coupe because the arm rests are already there! :) Make sure you get all the parts!  welded floor brackets, back fiberboard panel and welded metal channel, Arm rests and filler panels, the latch, bumpers and bumper plate (screwed on the body) and the two seats of course.  the coupe backer panel is a little shorter that a verts, but since you have to weld in the channel, you can make it work. the vert panel is not reproed AFAIK.

Any drawbacks to having the folding seat?

KevinW

Other than the cost?  none that I see.  For verts it has an added bonus!  When carting around those pagent girls with their high heels, they can rest them on the folded down seat back instead of the vinyl :D

Are the coupe fold down rear seats the same for all three years?

No, the 67 is different than the 68-69.

He's referring to the Partition Track or "holder" that holds the cardboard partition in place.

Fold down pictures HERE. (The Paritition Track is just above the Floor Brackets in the pictures.)

Is thefold down rear seat one of the rarer options for the 69? A buddy has a 69 Z/28 RS hugger orange , White vinyl top deluxe white houndstooth interior ,fold down rear seat  ....

You can go to the CRG main page, click on the "Options" box in the grid, then find and download the RPO spreadsheet to see how many were sold in 69.  That document is good for a lot of other questions you may have in the future.  Make sure you read the notes also to fully understand the numbers.  From above, looks like the RPO code is A67.

The 68-69 seat appear to be the same except for the foam and cover is cut out to access the latch...are the latches same for all three years?? The carpet or top side looks the same size when folded down..... Now that we're talking rare seats wonder why the strato bench wasn't offered on conv as the fold down ???

I assume the folding rear seat divider channel was spot welded in place during the "body in white" structure body build, at the point in the process when the standard rear seat hooks and lower bolt attachment brackets were welded?

David K

It definitely has a useful purpose in a parade.

Dave69x33

Follow up question:  It appears the channel was painted interior body color based on what I have seen on pics of original cars.  Can anyone confirm this?  Thx, Dave

Dave69x33

Yes, based on my research and views of original survivor 1st Gens with folding rear seats, the channel was painted interior color. See pics below.

I need to give credit to the other folks, folks on CRG and on Camaros.net for these photos.
