Trunk / seat board

Can someone tell me which side faces the trunk when I install the trunk separator board?  The jute side or the board side.  Seems I've seen it both ways.  Thanks!!

The board side faces the trunk.

The originals did not have the jute padding on them that the repros do. So as John said, black board towards the trunk side..........RatPack..........
