Strange POP

A friend of mine has a very different POP than I've ever seen. It's a 69 with the top line containing the VIN only, a two line blank space, next three lines list name and address of owner stamped directly into the metal (no plastic strips) followed by 5-50, 177, and 4-9 on the bottom line.

Does anyone know why his lacks so much info?

Post a picture, but it sounds like he as a replacement POP. These were issued when the original was lost, or when the car changed ownership during the warranty period.

Thanks Ed,

I'll get in touch with him and post pic ASAP.
If it is a replacement, is there any way to obtain the missing info using a replacement POP?

Other than the owners name no, these don't have any useful informaion on them. It was just the warranty info.

Big_Al

Thanks again, Ed.

Now I have to break the bad news to him. I got his hopes up about the car's info when he told me he had the POP. :-[

Ed, Just received the POP from his '69, minus Vin and owner info.

Replacement?

Al, all I can say is "probably". Although I haven't seen a lot of replacement POP's, the ones I have seen didin't have the owner info stamped directly into the metal plate. They had the GM tape like "normal" POPs.

I've asked Kurt to look at the picture and comment.

Thanks for passing it along, Ed.

I haven't seen a lot of POPs, but everyone I've spoken to also never heard of one like it.

Yes, unfortunately just a warranty POP.
I've seen some with the owner info stamped in, seems to depend on who made it.....

Thanks for taking a look Kurt.

Do you know if these were made at regional areas of the country or maybe at certain large dealerships?
Just curious.

Replacement POP's were made at regional Zone offices or at Central Office; dealers didn't have the Addressograph equipment to create the plates.

You guys are a wealth of knowledge, I'm so glad I found this site.

CRG people are much friendlier than other Camaro sites, even ones that claim to be friendly. ;-) Some day I hope the little knowledge I know about Camaros can be used to help someone else.

Thanks again for all your help.
