I found these for sale on ebay (#4615700167). I purchased mine much the same as this seller. Can those of you with original RS cars or experience comment on correctness. I know the part # is the same as listed in the ASM. They always struck me as being to small for the screws I have on my bracket. I'm also intrested in pn# 3866096 Cap. I do not have these and would like to know any differances.

Can someone explain to me how to link the ebay site to here so you just have to click on it to get there?

Thanks

I sold some on ebay and they seemed to fit fine were not to tight, but they were original and 30 something years old

where exactly do these go?

I assume since there are 3 these are the ones that cover the st screws holding the bracket together and facing the firewall. The other part # may be for the smaller st screws holding the bracket to the firewall?

Bracket to fender well. If I remember right all six screws are the same size, and so are the six rubber caps.

Hi Wayne

Is this a 69 thing, it doesn't show caps in my 68 AIM under any of the washer bottle drawings, plain, L34, etc.

The ST screws are #10 at fenderwell and 1/4 on the bracket.

OH, Yes most likely a 69 difference. Mine were black also, I did not see your pic come up other times I viewed. Thanks

Here's a pic of originals on a 69.
I think there's only 3, pretty sure that's what the AIM says (mine is packed away right now).

On page 460 of the AIM they show how they were installed. I take it that there might have been 6 used???? These caps also came on other models and years. Just recently a friend of mine had a 1967 L79 chevelle with 2 caps installed on the screws on the washer bottle bracket. They were original. I bought the ones from Wayne Chipman. A good man to deal with!  Sam

Boy! I've been busy and haven't had much time to check back, so I was sure suprised to see this topic still getting recent comment. I appreciate your pictures Kurt. They of course are black while mine as in the ebay ad are red. However those in your picture look to be larger thus my concern about the red ones fitting on the screw without splitting. I am looking on page 460 of the AIM where it shows pn# 3767303 for the 3 screws coming up out of the inner fender (ones shown in your picture) and pn# 3866096 caps for the 3 screws used to attach the jar bracket to the support. Small parts I know but I have always been intrested in having correct items. Reminds me of the cap (3908372) used on the left rear shock only on all 1st gen camaro's. No one ever talks about them but they do exist.

whats this about? was there a special cap there? or is it just the ones you see in the repo parts catalogs?

If you look in the AIM (UPC4, Sheet B3 for 1968), you'll see that there was a cap (P/N 3908372) installed on the left rear shock on all first gen's except convertibles. I'm not sure why it exists, nor do I know why it wasn't installed on convertibles. Perhaps for some kind of protections to keep things from getting ripped, but that's just a guess. JohnZ can probably tell us the REAL reason!

Here's a photo of the original cap on the left rear shock stud on my 02D '69Z; I assume it's there as a luggage protector.

John,

Thanks, that's what I figured since there's not one on the passengers side (spare tire in the way so it's not needed), but now the real question. WHY did the convertibles not come with this? We have luggage too!!!

Ed

Ed, it's because you cant FIT luggage in a convert trunk! :D

Attached pic shows 2 of the 3 original caps on the bracket screws frommy '69 RS prior to the beginning of the front end restoration in 2004.
