I'm putting an NOS set of stack style hood louvers on my 68 SS. I've noticed that some of the old date boxes have a different color combination than the latter GM and those sold reproduction. What was original?

Early old box NOS are pewter gray painted insets and silver backing plate.

Later NOS are black painted insets and black backing plate.

Pat, I've never seen anything other than black, but that doesn't mean much I guess.

I do like the look of the pewter though!

The ones on my car (June 68) are original and are black/black

I have a set of new NOS louvers that the outside of the stacks are painted silver & down in the grooves they are painted black. metal plates are black with some silver over spray on them. They are for sale if anybody needs a set. They are the last ones that they made are 1 part number for each side.
