L88 heads and intake question?

I am getting close to building my 396.  I just got an L88 intake and when I set it on the heads/ block, etc.  There are a couple of ports in the heads that aren't covered by the intake.  The intake decodes as an L88 and the heads are 380 L88's.  What am I missing?

Thanks for any help...

That would have been my thought...it's just a cross over isn' t it?  For warming the choke housing...and the carb :o

Strickly for choke use, racers always block these passages, and Mr. Gasket makes a gasket set with metal blocking plates in this area just to help keep the carb cool.

Jerry,

Why do racers block heat riser passages? To keep carb/fuel charge as cool as possible? What are down sides (if any) to this when warming engine on cold day?

Takes a little longer for the fuel to come up to temp when driving on the street. Maybe a little bog or hesitiation in the beginning. Colder the gas is going in and the hotter the gasses are coming out makes better horsepower. Just may be a little trickier driving.
