i have new one and some of the fins are pushed to close together,does that make a difference in function or leaks,i thought they were cooling fins and no coolant goes thru them is that correct? thanks

You are right. You can straighten the fins so air will flow through. They make tools for doing it but a small screwdriver and a lot of care will do it.
