Ill have to check.....that is close to mine but, i think its a little off. I can hope though.

Slimjim379

Do you still have or know the location of this motor? I have a 68 Z28 with VIN# 124378N433833. I have been searching for this engine for over 30 years.

Slimjim379

Anyone on here know a member that goes by wisemanz28. If you know him, please tell him to get ahold of me. He knows the location of the original MO motor for my Z28 but I can't get ahold of him by email or a response on this forum. Any help would be appreciated.

KurtS

I split your post off of the completely unrelated post and then attached it to the relevant post.

He was on the site a month. You got his email address and sent him an email directly?

Kurt has made me aware of your recent post Slimjim. My cousin and I originally looked at a 68 Z28 that this guy had in his barn and outside in a 78 Malibu he had the MO 302. He said it ran and my cousin is trying to find his information. The engine is located in Okolona Ohio, just west of Napoleon Ohio.

Slimjim379

Awesome news. Thank you so much for getting back to me. Hopefully the motor is still there. Let me know when he finds the info. Thanks again.

wisemanz28

Where are you located, I'm curious as to how far the car is from the motor.

Slimjim379

I live just south of Perrysburg Ohio. My Z28 was sold new at Floyd Dugan Chevy in Toledo to a man in Maumee. After that, 4 different neighbors of mine had owned the car, until I bought it in the early 90's. The engine, for some reason, was pulled and sold by one of them and the car has been a roller ever since. Okolona is around 40 miles from where I live.

wisemanz28

I live in Maumee. I really hope you can get that engine, sounds like that car deserves to be reunited with it's original motor.

Slimjim379

Oh wow. Your close to me then. I kinda figured that motor was grenaded back in the 80's but have been searching for a long time hoping someday I might find it. Do you remember if the guy was in town or out in the country ?

wisemanz28

He's in the country, he lives on a farm

Slimjim379

Oh cool. We will have something in common then. We farm also. If you need to call or text, my cell number is 419-266-4426. Do you have any first gen Camaros ?

wisemanz28

I have a 69 Z28. I've owned the Z since 1988. The car has the original DZ engine but it doesn't have the original transmission. I've been looking for it for 37 years so I feel your frustration. When I looked at Dave's 68 Z , it was a total restoration, it needed a lot of metal work , didn't have the original drivetrain, had some cool options like a tic tok tach and it had a trans in the trunk but I think it was date coded for a 69 Camaro.

Slimjim379

My 68 Z is a Butternut yellow car with black vinyl top. Also have a 69 RS with 19k original miles. I've had the 69 since the late 80's also.

Slimjim379

What color is your Z ? Do you ever take it to the car show in P-burg on Friday nights ?

wisemanz28

I have, but I've never shown it. I always park in the lot and walk around. My Z is Hugger Orange with black stripes. Is your 69 Garnet Red , I've seen one that color at the show. Don't really see many Z28,s there.

Slimjim379

No. My 69 is dusk blue with white stripes. I've never taken it up to the show.

Slimjim379

Have you heard anything from your cousin yet ? Even if I had a name , I could find his address.

FRANKTHECRANK

Any updates on this one. The VIN was close too mine, and I am also on the lookout for the original 302 that came in my Z so, this thread is interesting to me. Hope he found the engine.

Slimjim379

Wisemanz28 gave me the contact info for the guy that has my original motor. When I called and inquired about buying the motor, he said he wasn't interested in selling it. Hopefully someday he changes his mind.

FRANKTHECRANK

Sometimes it takes a "stupid number" to be offered to him to convince him to sell it,...or, an offer to replace the engine with a nice, rebuilt, turn key, performance engine for him to reconsider selling it.

I hope if I ever find the OG MO engine that belongs in my car that the person with it is willing to part with it.

Stay after him (without being too much of a PITA). If he knows you own its car, that might help persuade him, too.  Frank has a good idea, too.

Slimjim379

Thanks for the advise. I sent him pics of my VIN and cowl tags so he knew I was legit. I even offered him another 302 engine on trade. Need to stop by and visit with him. Wish me luck.
