Jerry Macneish would be the one to answer your questions.  He maintains The Official 1967 Camaro Z/28 Registry.  Here's a link to it:

http://www.z28camaro.com/registry.html

According to Jerry's book, The Definitive 1967-1968 Camaro Z/28 Fact Book (3rd edition), as of 1-1-2002, 170 1967 Z/28s have been located, documented, and accounted for.  Although I'm sure it's more now (5+ years later).  As far as price goes, I defer to Jerry again.  I do know one just sold on Ebay without it's original drivetrain for $60,000.00 on a "Buy it Now" auction.  Here it is:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ih=008&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWA%3AIT&viewitem=&item=180088592935&rd=1&rd=1

Price is always relative to condition.   ;)

P.S.  Congratulations Zedder!

I grew up in Macon, Missouri and I may be able to identify the owner of the car when it was in that area.  I moved away a long time ago but I still have several gearhead friends in that area.  I'm checking with them to see if my hunch is correct.  Macon is a town of 5000 people that is farily isolated from any metropolitan area.  A car like that would not go unnoticed.

Thanks Paul!

CNorton, I have the name of the owner from Macon and have spoken with him on the phone a number of times.  Where I am stuck with the history of the car is prior to 1976 when the car came to Topeka.

194 in the national registry now with one pending verification.

jerry how many 68s have been verified

Jerry@CHP

Larry Eakin is running the 68 Z registry.  Check with him.......1968 Z28.com.  Also check with Kurt here.  There are a bunch of 68 Zs in the CRG data base.

In the db:
275 68 Z's.
950 69 Z's.

That's not many '68 Zs considering the size of the DB??

How does a Z/28 get into the registry? Or asked another way: how are the cars in the registry verified as authentic, not a fake?

The cars, drive trains and trim tags are suppose to be inspected and verified as real and authentic before they are given the identity of a Z28.

Who was or is responsible for inspecting and verifing this informaton? Was there docurmentation that goes with the car when delivered to the dealer or customer? Is this the documentation you require to verify and enter a z28 into the registry?

booya420

what should i look for to tell me the car is infact a z28 and not a clone

Jerry@CHP

Jason,

I added info and my report on your car the the CRG DB.  Also have it in my personal DB.

I will be in your neck of the woods next week.  Flying into Minn-St. Paul Wed morning, one car to certify in Blane, MN and then a flight out that evening for Rapid City, SD.  Plan to see Mt. Rushmore while I'm there........I hope weather permitting.

In regards to the other question about 67 Zs, there is a 4L on the trim tag.  The very early cars, first 17 or 18 have a 4P on the tag instead.
