Just purchased an X44 base coupe and the trim code is Z 715. Anyone know what the Z means?

715 is blue standard. The Z is probably just a typo. Does it have headrests?

Can you post a photo?

It actually doesn't have head rests. I purchased from 2nd owner who owned for 2 years. Prior to that it was original owner since 69.

I was told the owner removed them but I don't know maybe it came from factory with no headrests ?

I'll get photos later.

Per the protecto plate decode it's got the torque drive powerglide also.

If it has a torque drive, then it must be an L6 car. Not many of those made. If it's a V8 then it's a regular Powerglide.

Only mention I see on the "Z":

Field e - interior trim code
The first three digits of the trim ("TR") code are a unique (for each year) interior color and type code that indicate the color and standard or custom interior.
1967 tags also have a hyphenated suffix that indicate seat and headrest type:
Z - standard A50 Strato Bucket seats (no headrest)
Y - RPO AS2 headrest added to the A50 bucket seats
H - RPO AL4 Stato Bench seats (no headrest)
T - RPO AS2 headrests added to the AL4 bench seats

It's an L6 car.

I'll post photos later.

This thread jogged a recent memory - although it's an X not a Z. The '69 Chevelle trim tag pictured below was posted a few weeks ago by a member of yenko.net (rich p) on a classified ad on that site for a documented 69 Yenko Chevelle. The significance of the 'X' was discussed briefly, one poster suggested it was for no console but I didn't take away a clear understanding of what it actually denoted.....
Car was apparently certified by Jerry MacNeish, so would be very interested to know if he could shed light on the 'X'.

Wow, that's the first torque drive car that I recall seeing! Nice car, needs some detailing (block should be orange, etc), but how many L6 cars do you see.....

Attached is a better shot that shows the Z715 in regards to interior.

At some point this weekend I'll crawl under it and see if all the drivetrain is actually numbers matching.
