69 396 4 speed Z11 pace car

Hi Camaro Guru's! I am new to this forum and older camaros all together. My father-in-law bought a new 1969 Z11 396 4 speed in 1970 and still owns it today. It has been at a shop for the last 16 years getting a full restoration. But the shop that has had it is still not done so I am going to go get it and finish the restoration. The paint job is complete engine and all but there is still a ton of work to do. I have attached a few pictures to give an idea where it stands as of last week.

I do have a few questions about the amount of 396 4 speed Z11's that were produced in 69. I have heard that there was only 52 of them and wanted to see if anyone else on here has the same car, as I am full time learning this car and how to restore it. I have read the camaro research page and it is not real specific on the # of cars built with these spec.

Also I wanted to see if it would hurt the value for the car when he signs it over to my wife and I. At that time it will not be a 1 owner car. Should he just add our names to the title and leave his name?

Unless you are a dealer putting your name on the back makes you the second owner anyway staying in the same family is often times considered same owner or family owned since new, which is always a plus, if something would happen and it wasn't in your name that could be a problem good luck with whatever you do what a beautiful car, Darrell

It's taken a minute or two to wipe the drool off my keyboard. Very cool. I'm sure you have read, as you say, but Efforts should be made to research the history prior to your dad. Many of the uppity ups involved with GM and the Indy races, VIPs, received these cars to use durying the Indy season. Afterwards , they were turned back in to dealer inventory to be sold to the public. What I am suggesting is; if some tie to the car being used at the race, then there would be an additional historical value. And it just makes the whole thing more interesting. Regarding the title change, it is going to have to happen sooner or later. Family transfers do not affect its I owner (family) value. IMO, better transferred while your dad is living. Good luck.

No specific GM data exists on breakdown of big block versus small block Pace Cars.  Estimates based on % of all '69 Camaros that were big block are out there - about 350 as I recall.  Data gurus will chime in.  I have the same car with Canadian documentation.  A quick look at the build date on the trim tag might tell you if your car could possibly be a festival car or not.

Congrats Keith! I went through the same title dilemma a few years ago. My dad had been the only owner of the car until he transferred it to me. The car will never (as long as I'm alive) leave our family or be sold, so the market value really means nothing, besides getting adequate insurance coverage. I'm not sure of your situation with the car. But if you intend on keeping it, then certainly get the title transferred. If you plan on selling it after restoration, then maybe keep the original owner on the title. Its not often a car of this era comes to market with the original owner on the title.

I am surprised Kurt has not posted yet.  I asked him 2 years ago about 396 Pace Car production.  I was told around 500 to 735 range.  I asked because a friend of mine has one that  needs restored.   Now for sale because he bought a 67Z.  Car is very rough,  but has original engine and 3.08 128 bolt rear.  Turbo 400 is not original.    Car is in the registry.  But if you are going by Hp ratings.  375 cars were the lowest production

Nice car with great family history. I had a 396 4speed Z11 with POP from Bob Baker Chev in Indianapolis. Please give us some more photos and information on documentation if any.
