1968 Z/28 spiral shocks

I bid $105 early this week to sort of get it going, no other bids, this morning $ 113 was accepted offer and closed the auction.

yea, I see. Got an email this morning other offer accepted. Didn't pay much attention to the time frame, thought another day left.

Maybe we 68 owners are realistic and wouldnt pay stupid prices like some of you 69 guys..  Just sayin..

sorry, your right that was for 2. If they were still functional and didn't leak, I still think it was a good deal.

I won the bid on them, most likely just going to sit on the shelf. I can't believe no one else bid? They look real. I sure they will have to be rebuilt, if anybody ever figures out how to rebuild spiral shocks??

There are (or were?) shops that rebuilt old shocks (spiral), but I can not attest to their quality after rebuild...?
This is the only one a 'google' turned up...

But I also found some information I wasn't aware of on a Corvair site.  Following are two posts from a fella on that site:

1. FYI, straight from the Delco engr. The spiral is in the outer tube which is the reservoir for the fluid. The inner tube contains the shock piston. The spiral was used to prevent the fluid from from becoming airated from sloshing around. Previously there was a baffle in the middle of the reservoir to accomplish this. The spiral was easier than the the baffle to build into the shock. Haven't heard from the person who was going to rebuild them. Jim
2. The former Delco engineer I know is not rebuilding spiral shocks at this time. Too busy with other things. Possibly some time in the future. To rebuild them one has to cut off the top of the shock, fix the stuff inside and reweld the top back on. Not easy. Jim

Thanks guys.     Learn something new every day. A while back I talked with I think Apple hydraulics and a couple others and nobody wanted to touch them.

there was a guy named Dan Patch that was doing them and had shocks on ebay. I have not had dealings with him and it was pricey. I have a set of fronts and not done anything with them. I assume you shouldnt mix these with gas on the rear or did they with air shocks bitd?
