Distributor Identification

This is being sold as a 1111499 Distributor.  I am not sure if I believe it.  Although no one took the effort to fake vacuum advance module if they were trying to fake it.  I can not identify the vacuum advance module number.

It has black over spray on the shaft where I sometimes see orange.

Your picture isn't viewable. I just went through all of this with an 1111498 distributor. The stamp is key obviously. You can measure the circumference to tell if it has been turned and restamped. Here is how mine measure and what my stamp looks like.

I am no expert but I would pass on this even if it was $250! This thing is hammered and looks like it has been tampered with for sure, not to mention under for a couple hundred years! The numbers area is smooth in some places and seems someone tried to change some things. I would let it go. But wait for sure for responses from the very knowledgeable here on the site. Does anyone know what the 247 and W on the top near the weights is all about?  
Greenish blueish paint dot on points plate, same color paint marking where spring attaches?
Code on vacuum advance arm is M 392 24
No orange paint on shaft, but does appear to have black overspray in that area.  Did they paint the hold down black after assembly on aluminum intake cars?

Isn't it amazing how the most important crucial areas with the numbers are always the "wore" and "damaged" areas!
I wouldn't touch it but I'm no expert either!

Here's a close up of a genuine 499 and the 355 vacuum can from the same date range as the pictures of the "499" above, This distributor is not restored, but the housing has been dipped in carb cleaner to be able to see what was under the 46 years of grunge that was on top of it. That's White Out rubbed into the numbers to give them contrast for the pic.

I've seen a lot of supposed originals over the years - you get to the point where you can tell what you're looking at with a little inspection and comparison. I don't believe I would invest a lot in the one pictured above.

Pretty sure the answer is yes, however I am also pretty sure I have seen some August 68 dated 499's.

I couldn't  ask for better advice than this post.

I think I will pass on this not so genuine looking piece.

Sounds like it can only be worth a core price to use as a generic distributor for a non matching project.

I've seen one reputedly original 69 L78 with a 170 in it. That's a really small sample size... 

I would think a 170 by 69 would be impossible.
