Found this in a box outside in the rain

I found this in a box of junk outside at my house a few days ago. Finally got around to shooting some pic's. I think this came of my first '67 Camaro. I was told by a Camaro friend that this is gold. I guess it's kinda scarce, and would be valuable to a guy that was restoring a '67/'68. However, Gold might be pushing it  ;D I don't even know if they are the same for all 3 first gen years. What can anybody tell me about this, as far as what is it's correct application? Going to add it to the trade pile... Danny

Yep  X2   It's the starter motor brace and the solenoid wire retainer clip.  Used on all 3 years I believe.

That's what I thought, as my '68 has the same brace. I will have to check and see if mine has the wire clip part. Funny, I got 6 emails asking if I wanna sell it from 2 different sites. I guess it is kinda gold eh... Well if I did decide to sell instead of trade, to be fair I ALWAYS go by date and time of email and work my way down the list. Or throw it on eBay with no reserve. Well it's gonna be 61 degrees today. Going to take Raquel for a spin.. ;D ;D   .. Danny

Brace is still very NOS available and cheap so I can't see it being all that rare.  Maybe the design has changed?  I would sell it if the money was right.

The wiring clip is pretty cool. I would not let it go without doing some more research about it.  Those kinds of pieces are pretty hard to find when you need one.  If you "need" one, you $$$"NEED"$$$ it. :~D

Well I tried looking through all my pics and did not have a good angle to see it present on my car (69Z). I am pretty sure I have the original starter on mine, but it could have been removed at one point. Any other 69Z or other 69 model guys have this bracket on their car?

3906181 CLIP

Question: Was this the # used for all three years?
I found one also that seems like it is unpainted black phosphate coated probably a throw away item as the cars were serviced  & modified over the years.

was there a BB version also?

Solenoid wire clip is $25 repro. There's a different style clip for 67 that's $15. Brace is $10 repro. Prices vary with vendors.

Yes, GM a year or so ago still had them but the one end was now a slot instead of a oblong hole. The original braces are easy to find as they were used on so many applications but as noted the clip was tossed or missing a lot.

As I stated, prices vary depending on the vendor. This was left out when you quoted me. Keep digging and you willl find more price differences. Or just use your local contacts and grab parts from parts cars in the area.

Can you post a pic with it installed?

(Looking at the 1969 AIM on page UPC 6 page B7 it just shows the twisted bracket only.)

Thank you for the pic.

So is the twisted one correct for 69, or did they switch to the twisted one mid 69?

You're welcome!

No, read this CRG thread for more info...  http://www.camaros.org/forum/index.php?topic=8033.0

I read the thread but the link to the correct one didn't work. I guessing the bracket Ed refers to is the angle bracket in Danny's post.

So were both brackets that Danny posted used throughout production of 1969? Or did they drop the figure 8 loop at one point and then just use the one?

Have not had a chance yet to check my car. But I am going to jack it up and take a look hopefully later today. Here is a picture I found this morning. Is this it?.. Danny

dannystarr

Well.. as it turns out, I checked and mine is missing. I should say the solenoid wire clip was missing. I installed it and was pretty happy with the score. I picked up that box that had been saturated from being in the rain, to dump it in the recycle and the bracket fell on the ground!! I had seen it before, but not for many years. Good stuff... Now I can trade the long bolt, washer, nut, and bracket hopefully for something that I need.... Danny
