Here is my battery that I painted with some paint I found at a hobby store. I am happy with the result. And no it is not a "Topper" its a new R-59.

That looks good. I would like to find a dummy battery just to swap in for shows. I think the NOS or Repro is quite expensive. Has anybody found a good source just for a case ? Or does anyone have a original side post battery used or otherwise they are will to part with?

Friends original Y77 battery from the factory on his 69Z did NOT have the Delco in yellow but the later service replacement purchased did.

Later service replacement purchased in 1974 did!

No, the original born with battery is back in the car and the latter service replacement will be a spare for possible use latter on another car. If he was going to I'd have the rascal. :)

I just figured he was using it as a dummy battery. Did he go through the work of reusing a case?

Hey Chick, how is he using the original battery?  ;)

Hey Paul,
This past Spring Carlisle a good friend of mine who is a C2 NCRS judge told me about how the NCRS gang are cutting the bottom out of original batteries and stripping the plates (guts) out and then putting in a high energy small battery (Miata battery and others) inside and hooking up the terminals from the battery placed inside to the underside of the original battery terminals. He later sent information who I passed onto my friend and bingo, it's done. What a great idea if one has an original case and how many can say hey "that's the original battery in there!" :) A note: Cutting the bottom out of the old battery and stripping the plates and guts out is a time consuming and messy deal. Well worth it but again, not a quickie job!
