Does the gang stamp look legit to you guys?

DyRally-Z1986

Owner states there is no vin number on the block at all.

that photo is not sufficient to see existence (or not) of factory broach marks.... which is one of the keys to identifying original engine stampings.

Is that paint, Dykem or a bluish light shining on the block?

DyRally-Z1986

Not sure, it's a Craigslist ad. I was hoping you guys could tell me wether it's a real DZblock before I start talking prices with the guy.

Here is a I 20 8 DZ block I have. Just a week apart but it has the partial on the deck.

Thanks Kurt, I didn't think it looked right. Back to searching for a real one.

Gary is your block #3959512 A 302? I can't find that number anywhere? Chevy by the Numbers, or Jerry's book.

Yes it is. Been verified by the great guys here on CRG. Been trying to find a buyer but the amount of people that say they want it back away because of that casting number. I don't understand why it isn't registered in any of the popular books. If you Google that number there are more DZ engines with that cast number that have shown up. Someone will always think it's a fake.

As far as I know, the 512 block never had a production application, which is why it never shows up in any of the books - it was used for many years exclusively as the "universal" Service and Warranty replacement 4"-bore block.

And that is why I still have it and can't sell it.
