I'll have to wait until I get the plate before I can answer that, I haven't got it yet. I have a reproduction on my car now, so I can check it to see if there are any stampings on it.

I bought a front license plate bracket from member Dannystarr. He says it has the AAC on it but neither one of us was for sure if original GM. Thats why my post. ................

Gary,

Do you think it was a reproduction font stamping? The stamping looked the same as the ones I posted.

I have a spare original 69 license plate bracket.(not perfect but original) I can check for stamping but won't be home till Sun evening. I will also check the original on my car.

Just pulled my bracket off to check. It does have the AAc stamping. (Very small fonts) The pictures not that great but gives you the general area.

Those are good pics. I can at least compare the reproduction one I have against the one I'm getting from Dannystarr. I'm thinking there won't really be that much difference between the two except maybe for the AAc stamping.

Gary,

Two comparisons - first is my original bracket from my '69 Z (on the car since I got it in '73), and the NOS one I bought in the '80's. Stampings are within a couple of millimeters of the same spot - pretty good indication they were by the same manufacturer.

A pleasant surprise - my original (appearing!) license plate screws are still in place. This piece was on the car last in '80 -

Last pics are of screws and overall appearance -

Just wish I had bought multiples of everything I started getting from GM starting in 1980 - that's when I figured out what the X77 on the cowl tag meant, and found out how to get the original documentation. As years went by, I managed to accumulate a lot of NOS parts, but I only had 1 car up until 1992, and then only '69's until 2011 when I added the lonely '68 Z (by selling an LS5 '70 Chevelle).

You live and learn, constant process. That's also why a geez like me likes the site -

Thanks Steve. Looking at the screws I wonder if that style was used exclusively or was there more than one style. The big head screw I see most of the time, the little head with washer like in your pic not so much.

Gary,

Good question - I've seen the same thing. I need to dig up my rear bracket and see if the screws are still in it; at least that would give another clue if they do match. I'll let you know if they do.

My 67 plate screws look like the ones z28z11 posted.

I checked the rear bracket today - large head screws still in the plate, patina like the fronts, obviously where I left them in '80 when I disassembled the car. No AAc stamping on that bracket, just the GM part number that I could see in the middle of the part. So much for the matching screws theory I had -

I was thinking maybe those screws were dealer installed. I really can't say if the factory installed them. That's something else to think about too I suppose.

My front bracket for my '67 has the AAc on it, but the original screws I think are long gone.

The factory provided the screws (paper envelope license plate attaching unit, placed in the glove box), and the dealer prep guy installed them with the plate(s).

Great information. I wasn't old enough yet to buy my first new car and wouldn't know about the hardware in the glovebox, but I was old enough to know that when I saw my first 69 Z28 the summer of 69 I was hooked. Bought my first one used in 1975 for $1200.00
