i'm looking at a 69 z28 block casting number 3932386 vin on motor looks right and matches car but the suffix code doesn't make sense to me VO838DZ. can anyone help me

I don't know what it means I thought it meant aug then the date

 I see what you mean....day 38. Do you have a picture by chance of the engine pad? Also, check the block cast date. It should be before the engine assembly date on the pad.

That's a known stamping error. What's the VIN?

I have 4 V0838DZ engines in my db. Best guess, it was supposed to be V0831DZ, a Saturday. V0828DZ is known.
