My VIN plate saddle/bracket/backing plate, or whatever you want to call it is trashed, where can I find a new one?

From memory they are the most basic piece.. Why not fab one?
Junkyard otherwise.. All GMs of the era from 1968 I'd expect to be the same. Never seen a repro.
