RS Grill Black, Correct Finish..?

Hey guys. I came across an NOS RS Grill for sale, so I snagged it. It's in pretty decent shape for it's age, but I'm wondering what the correct finish for the "black" part of the grill? Was it simply the black plastic from GM, or did they finish it with some kind of low-gloss black paint?

My original RSZ28 grille centre is just the GM Black Plastic, owned the car since 74

The black grills were not painted with anything. They were molded black and that's the finish they have.
